Large contingent of the fan base thinks RB's should just be able to churn out yards regardless of blocking. Rico is perfectly fine. Now that there is actually some blocking going on in front of him, it's not surprising at all.

100%

Pollard took too much heat last year, when he was getting blown up in the backfield.

For the last 3 years? our run blocking has been mostly bad.

I'm certainly not saying there isn't a difference between the Henry, Barkley's, etc., of the world and an adequate back but even the great ones aren't going to overcome bad blocking on a consistent basis.

All the Cowboys need is a stud rookie next April and the backfield is set to go.

I don't care if this was against the Giants. He has proved the last few weeks he can be a big part of the solution.

I don’t think he’s improved I think he faded a bad team and got carries. He’d be fine as a back up but they really need to look at that position and take it serious. They could easily draft two running backs and make this running game better. They never would do that though we can’t even get them to take one.

Agreed. I'm not trying to knock Rico, but he still looks like a lower end starter to me and the Cowboys really should look at upgrading the position. If he comes cheap I'd love to see him back with a rookie taken in the top 3 rounds to split carries with him. My guess is that if he continues to put up numbers at this rate he is likely to get overpaid in what is looking like a weaker than usual FA RB class. My fear is the Cowboys feel forced to pay him starter money probably in the James Connor or just under range and feel like they can neglect the position again in the draft.

I wouldn't celebrate much. he did it against one of the worse run defenses in the league.

although he is going to get on a run because he is going against a soft cinci defense.....

I agree. He’s a fine back. But when you watch other backs and other teams play you can just tell there’s a gear missing. The guy who gets 2 when he’s suppose to get -2. The guy who takes a 2 yard run and turns it into 20.

This team is always a year or two late though. They will draft someone. I think they should really use two picks to do it one in the 2nd and one in the mid round. But of course I’d be happy if they spend just one….

I have the same fears as you……

They sign Dowdle and maybe draft someone in the 5th or 6th….

Rico is proving everyone wrong. Even the coaching staff was hesitant to rely on him early in the season. He should be our starter next season but we’ll surely have a better #2.
