Rico Dowdle signs w/ Panthers 1 year up to 6.25 million

So for $6M you could have a 1,000 yard 3 down back, or a splashy special teams player that gives you 1 or 2 big plays a game.

This sets up the Cowboys to draft Jeanty at #12 or trade up to get him. If Jeanty is picked early then they are forcing a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round even if it isn't best player available. Other teams now know the Cowboys want a RB and will trade and draft around to keep them from getting the player they want in the 2nd or greater.

What are the odds that he’ll have an injury free season? Carolina did well in signing him for one year only…. But way too much.

I don’t see the fit in Carolina, he’s not going to unseat Hubbard or Brooks

The Dallas Cowboys struck a deal with running back Javonte Williams on Monday, and that seemed to point to one thing - the team wouldn’t re-sign Rico Dowdle. That turned out to be very true as Dowdle is heading to the Carolina Panthers on a one-year deal. ESPN reports that Dowdle’s deal is worth a minimum of $3 million but could go as high as $6.5 million.

Similar to what happened when they let Tyron Smith leave, the Cowboys must not have been comfortable with the incentives reaching that high, and decided to get Williams at a max of $3.5 million. You could make the argument of sticking with Dowdle for the extra money given how he performed last year, but the Cowboys may be thinking more about the draft.

Good for him. Going to split time with Chubba in Carolina though.
