If Rico can pass protect them he starts.

20 to 20 I start Rico. I'd relegate Zeke to short yardage, inside the opponents 20 and if they were ever backed up inside their own 20. I'd also like Zeke taking the rock in 4th quarter if the boys are trying to run out the clock.

Tune in next Sunday. If Zeke does not play. Then there is your answer.

If he does play, then we still do not know.
Good point, they don't give him a lot of reps in practice as they know what he can do, but surely he's not playing I don't think that means anything. That's like saying is Martin playing

I stand by, if he's healthy, Malik Davis has been better than either for the last 2 years.

I'm starting the season off with the experienced back despite the probable low returns. His receiving and his blocking will compensate in the meantime.

In addition, against the Browns, the offensive line will need the help.

I say that is how I will start. If Dowdle comes in halfway through the 2nd quarter and blows through for a couple of long ones, then the RB lineup is going to change appropriately the next game.

In the meantime, an experienced back should be more secure with the ball in the beginning of the season.

Week 1, who gets the start and why?
It doesn't matter who plays on 1st down, they are all getting the ball. Zeke is not the workhorse he used to be so he won't be used that way. Rico will get more carries.

You guys who are always screaming for RB by committee might just get your fill of that crapp this season.

Zeke shouldn’t be getting the ball on first and 10.

So Rico.

Zeke should only be on the field for short yardage situations and passing downs when you want the extra blocker.

Dowdle has been no more than a backup in the pros, and I see no reason to expect that to change. And Dallas may be going cheaper overall at the position, but Elliott is making more, $1.6 million of it is guaranteed and he has incentives built in.
Week 1, who gets the start and why?
Wait, the question was who am I starting. I think it would still be Elliott because Rico hasn't proven he can be a starter. I'd give him every chance to prove it in the preseason, though.

With what we've got, I'd start off limiting Elliott to 12 to 15 carries per game and give Rico and Freeman about 10 (who gets them would change based on who is doing the most with them). Any other carries would go to Lamb, Turpin and/or Luepke. I'm expecting Vaughn to end up on the practice squad, but I could see him getting kept over either Dowdle or Freeman if he shows the ability to be a change-up back/ long third-down back.
