I'm guessing Sunrest is the server and Guardian is the faction?

Yep

Sunrest is the server we play on and we are on the Guardian faction side.

Defiant side is cool w/ races and racial abilities but we discovered there is a bit more polish w/ the environments and cut scenes n such on the Guardian side.

Why do developers do that. Do they not think the customer won't notice the developmental differences from each side?

It was that was w/ WoW. The Alliance had it a bit nicer as far as game environment starting out than the Horde orig did. Thing caught up but it just seems like a lot of games are this way.

There isn't a good or bad side w/ this game. Thats the cool thing about it. The different factions have different races but they aren't good or evil.

Each faction is out to save Telara but in different ways, thus the conflict of "HOW" to save Telara.

Defiant : "Well your way sucks at saving the planet. I want to save the planet this way."

Bayne: "Well you suck and your ways of saving us sucks. I don't like you anymore, can you just put me on your IGNORE LIST? You know what, nevermind....just chew on this FIREBALL to the FACE oh oh and here is my pet Razorback named "PigBacon", let him charge you a few times and rake your arms and legs while you deal w/ that pyro issue going on on your face."

Peace :D

That better? :laugh2:

Just out of curiousity on my part, how many hours a day do you think some gamers, not you necessarily, spend playing this ulti-playermay antasyfay amegay?

Ballpark.

I really don't play them. I played Everquest for about six months one time, but burned out and quit. They do consume way to much time.

When I'm actively playing an MMO it displaces TV time so maybe two hours a day during the week.

You should come out and check it out. The D/L is only about 8gig. It doesn't take much time at all to get setup and started.

Find some time and come out play. It could be like old times in MajorMUDD over at Argus.

:D

Im playing on the Guardian side

Have they started allowing download of the beta client yet? This thread pushed me over the edge and I preordered the game from Trion, and now I'm starting to wonder if I'll get to play in the open beta. Maybe I'm just waaay over estimating the amount of players that will be grabbing the client for this open beta, but it seems like if they want everyone to get in on time they ought to start pushing it out really, really soon. Or maybe downloads have already started but I'm just missing it?

I like Android, but I'm evil as hell. My slogan since the early nineties was "DIE DIE DIE". Dallas may recall hearing that a time or two back on Argus around 93'-94'. :)

Besides, why be good when you can be BBBAAADDD!!

Next Beta event starts on Feb 15th. If you pre-ordered you should automatically be invited to this last event.

Log into your Trion account and click apply code on the left hand side of the page. You should alreadt see something like "RIFT_VIP_Beta_All_Access_Invite02".

As for the download, I got a link but the Beta FAQ says:

How do I download the beta if I’m invited to a beta event?

Once you’ve been invited to a RIFT beta event, you must log in to your Trion Worlds account and agree to the Terms of Use, License, and Non-Disclosure Agreement (EULA). After accepting the EULA, a link to download the RIFT patcher will be available in your account. You will also receive instructions via email.

Gotcha...standby for the download link. I'm just paranoid that I'll somehow miss it or that I've misread the FAQs.

I guess I'm just used to how Blizzard starts pushing out patches days or even weeks before they actually go live in order to reduce stress on their fileservers and to make sure everyone is up and going when it actually does go live.

Anyway, thanks for the confirmation!

Here's another link for the download:

I'm not sure if you need to input any special information though.

Ahhh, yeah. I downloaded that one as soon as I preordered. That's just the patcher though, correct? What I'm starting to panic about is getting the full 8gb client. Like I said, I was just assuming they'd release it prior to it actually going live so everyone would be ready to rock and roll as soon as they open the servers on the 15th. I just gotta be patient, I suppose.

Thanks for the legwork though. I really appreciate it.

***edit***

Ha! As I typed this, I tried logging into the patcher again and...now it's downloading the full beta client. Sweetness.

No problem. The patches seem to download quickly as well so you should be set for the next open beta event.

What is the storyline behind this game anyway?

LOTR is free to play but i believe if you want the great loot you have to pay for it.

Sounds fair enough considering it used to cost $15 a month. Im considering LOTOR, waiting The Secret World, SW:TOR or going back to Age of Conan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rift_(video_game)
From Wikipedia:

Rift is set in a fantasy world which is the focal point of different planes (worlds). These worlds have now invaded Telara, causing rifts to open. These rifts begin to spawn monsters which proceed to march towards important points on the map. It is then up to players to defeat these monsters and to close the rift. If rifts are left unchecked, the invading monsters will eventually conquer large portions of the map, killing and significantly impairing the players in that area. Players do not have to be in a group to be able to join a rift and are rewarded for many things including healing, attacking and buffing. The severity and locations of the rifts are entirely dynamic (and thus random). Rifts of 6 different types (earth, fire, air, water, life, and death) are possible, and rifts of different types will oppose each other.
