I meet him once, coming out of a 7-11. He and Rowdy-Rowdy Piper. Funny story.

RIP Virgil Riley Runnels Jr. - "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.

Oh man. That just really sucks. Damn.

Hopefully Vince will put together a nice tribute package together for Raw.

Wow!

The man is a legend.

You would look at him and with his build and think the guy wasn't athletic and you couldn't be more wrong.

For quite a while he was Florida wrestling.

3-time NWA World Champion... his battles with Race and Flair were epic.

I was never a fan of his booking and quite frankly I thought the gimmick Vince saddled him with in the WWF was absolutely horrible.

As a wrestler he's certainly one of the top-50 all-time.

I read not long ago he worked training the NXT guys wherever that is.

It must have happened suddenly because I just read that a few days ago.

Sucks to hear.

I never really got into him when he was in FCW and in the Crockett Promotions. But, when I finally moved down south during my college years, I started to understand why he was a draw and started to dig him more.

For a good stretch, he may have been the greatest booker of all time. I couldn't thank him enough for all of the great booking he had during from 1985-1988 with the Crockett Promotion. I would say half of the greatest memories I've had from wrestling came during that time.

For me, this is my favorite Dusty Rhodes promo:

Which eventually led to this incredible moment:

RIP Dream.

He's been working with the NXT guys for a while.

Adam Rose (real name Ray Leppan), was under the Leo Kruger gimmick which wasn't taking and the WWE was all set to fire him. Leppan has a young child with a rare disease that threatens his life and has surpassed all of the doctors life expectancy.

They told Leppan that he needed to come up with 10 gimmicks on his own and choose 1.

Leppan asked Dusty for advice.

Dusty told him 'what gimmick is the most opposite of what you do now (as Leo Kruger)?'

Leppan pointed to the Adam Rose gimmick.

Dusty said 'choose that one because it will show the writers that you have range.'

Leppan did just that and Dusty was right. Leppan then became Adam Rose and got a contract for the main roster.

His accent? Louisiana?

Just wondering..that's unusual.

Or was that just a put on?

I never see Adam Rose on there anymore. I thought he was gone.

Very very very sad news.

Dusty Rhodes was awesome.

He had great matches and feuds and did some of the best promos of all time.

This is very sad.

May the American Dream rest in peace.

Rich was more appreciative of Dusty's booking skill than I was.

At first it was innovative but then the "Dusty finish" began being used way too often.

It was that period when match endings became much more convoluted with clean pin falls and submissions being the exception rather than the rule.

Dusty was from Austin, Texas.
