Darryl Dawkins, a high-scoring, big-dunking center who played the bulk of his 15-year NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets, has died at the age of 58.

Wow!

Sorry to hear of this.

The guy was a character.

I remember reading a story about him... I think it was in "Sport" magazine (anyone remember that?)...

Anyway, when he was a kid, he had just watched "Mary Poppins" and jumped off the roof of his house (must have been a single story) holding an umbrella.

He said his mother came out and beat his arse for it.

That part made me laugh-out-loud at the time.

Loved watching Dawkins play. The names for his dunks were priceless. Jumped straight to the NBA from high school. I remember dunking on the 8' goals at the elementary school across the street from where I lived and yelling our some of those crazy names. Great time to watch the NBA.

Yeah, this is bad news. Was never a Sixers fan but I always like to watch Dawkins' dunks because you might see a backboard go. Way too young to die. 58 is just way too young.

RIP Daryle "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins
