Don't remember him as a active player, but remember him as an ex-Cowboy, broadcaster, and actor. RIP Dandy Don.

Opps, missed the headline, mods please delete.

Oh man, very sad to hear this.

RIP.

P.S. they better put something nice together for tonights broadcast

Dandy Don was my favorite player until we (Saints fans) got our own team in 1967. His ex-wife was my English teacher here in Bossier City soon after that.

Hell raiser. Man of sorrows. Iconoclast. Enigmatic. Independent. Sometimes a thorn in Landry's side.

Reclusive to the end.

There was a lot of sorrow inside this man, we just will never know what demons drove him completely from and away from football.

Dandy Don is gone but we cant turn out the lights.
A statue of Meredith in front of Jerra's palace is in order. He was that great and that iconic.

I hate to see former Cowboys greats pass away :(. RIP Dandy

God bless you Don. His playing days were before me; however, the memories of the Monday Night Football trio (Meredith, Cosell and Gifford) were a staple of my youth.

My prayers are with his family.

Same with me. He is a LEGEND to me as a broadcaster. I wish I could have watched him as a player. Sad day.

Dandy Don..

I wish you were more open about your life because it was a terrific story.

Before my time, but he seemed like a fun-loving kinda guy. I always thought of him as the original Namath, seeing as how he was no stranger to honky tonks or the night life. Lord knows what he would have accomplished if he hadn't taken such an awful beating. RIP.

One of the all time greats... Its such a sad day.... It stinks because all of the greats will start leaving us soon.... Dandy Don was my father in law's favorite player and it brings great joy to me when he would discuss watching hime play.... You will be missed good sir.....

What a great photo.

I'm saddened by this news. He really was a special person.

IT had already started.

Tom Landry
Harvey Martin
Bob Hayes
Now Don.

Also did everyone know he was the very first Dallas Cowboy player? He was signed to a personal services contract before the team even got awarded a franchise. He along with Don Perkins were signed before that.

Don Meredith commenting on Fair Hooker, a receiver for the Cleveland Browns - "Fair Hooker? Never met one."

Well...a little pice of me is gone today. I cried when the Packers beat us in the 60's and part of it was for Don. He was so gracious in defeat. I remember after a brutal Cleveland loss in the playoffs he gave an interview in his underwear after the game and said all the right things.

He got every drop out of life so no reason to be sad...Don wouldn't want you to be.

He's back with Jeff and Hazel.
