The little general passed away today at the age of 85. Pro Bowler with both the Commanders and Cowboys. Retired from the Commanders to become a lawyer, but was convinced to come out of retirement by joining the law firm of early Cowboys co-owner Bedford Wynne. LeBaron was a bright spot on the early awful Cowboy teams. He taught Don Meredith a lot about playing the position. Le Baron was also an executive with the Falcons, and won Executive of the Year in 1980. RIP to one of the early Cowboy greats.

Quarterback Eddie LeBaron, who made it to the NFL despite a five-foot, seven-inch, and 160-pound frame, died Wednesday at the age of 85, according to theSacramento Bee.

A tenth-round pick in 1950, LeBaron played for Washington in 1952 and 1953, and from 1955 through 1959. He went to Canada in 1954, and he finished his career with the Cowboys from 1960 through 1963.

Between being drafted and debuting in the NFL, LeBaron earned a Bronze Star in the Korean War. He also was wounded twice in battle.

A member of the Washington Ring of Fame, LeBaron made it to three Pro Bowls in D.C., and another in Dallas. He was the league’s rookie of the year in 1952.

After his playing career, LeBaron worked as a broadcaster with CBS. He later became the G.M. of the Atlanta Falcons, and later and executive vice president with the franchise. He was named the NFL’s executive of the year in 1980.

LeBaron also worked as a lawyer, obtaining his law degree in 1959.

He’s survived by his wife, Doralee. Married 61 years, they have three sons and five grandchildren.

We extend our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

85. Pretty good for someone that started playing when they still were using leather helmets.

RIP, first real Cowboys QB

He was the first Cowboys QB if I'm not mistaken which is quite a distinction with our history. Rest In Peace Mr. LeBaron.

I actually saw him perform several times before becoming a harcore fan. He was only 5'7'' tall but fortunately, he was also quick on his feet with good accuracy and surprisingly effective. RIP, Eddie. You really were a good one.

When you look at the QBs have started for the cowboys for more than one year, it is pretty darn good record. Eddie, Dandy Don, Craig Morton, Roger, Danny, Troy, Q and Tony. Only one that really makes all the rest look pretty great is Q. Even Craig Morton was decent. He made the pro bowl with the Broncos I beleive so that means just about every somewhat long term Dallas QB made at least one probowl in his career. No other Franchise comes close.
