This is sad news for all of the NFL. Was never a fan of the Raiders or Stabler but I recognize greatness and can appreciate it. Only 69 years old. That's way too young to go.

RIP Kenneth Michael Stabler (Dec. 1945 - July 2015)

A hoax? My mom called and told me and she does not watch sports at all but she did know him many years ago. I thought for sure it was legit but glad to hear it isn't :)

Longtime Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler died Thursday in Gulfport, Miss., according to WPMI. He was 69 years old.

His death was confirmed by FoxWBRC, via a University of Alabama spokesman, and through a statementfrom Stabler's family that said he died of colon cancer.

"He passed peacefully surrounded by the people he loved most, including his three daughters and longtime partner, as some of his favorite songs played in the background, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Sweet Home Alabama' and Van Morrison's 'Leaves Falling Down.'"

RIP Snake...
RAIDERS ON PASSING OF KEN STABLER
"The Raiders are deeply saddened by the passing of the great Ken Stabler," said owner Mark Davis. "He was a cherished member of the Raider family and personified what it means to be a Raider. He wore the Silver and Black with Pride and Poise and will continue to live in the hearts of Raider fans everywhere."

During that era he was perhaps the most accurate of all passers.

It's unfortunate that he doesn't get the props today that he deserves.

Very true MW. He wasn't an athlete but I love to watch him play and he was one of my favorite non-Cowboy players.

True. He didn't have the athletic ability of Roger or Tarkenton. I don't think he had the reputation as a leader like Griese or Bradshaw, but when it came to throwing an accurate ball he was it.

My uncle hit it off with Stabler at Gilley's one night way back when. They became friends but not real close. My uncle, dad and I were invited to his house in Bal Harbor a few times.

I was real young but I do remember one Sunday morning we went over to eat breakfast(after they had an all-night binger) and Kenny had to play that day. He was still drinking a few hours before the game!

I was maybe 11 years old but I thought that guy was cool :D
