He was always entertaining in everything I saw him in. RIP Rip.

I think his name hurt any chance he had of being taken seriously, but I liked his work.

He helped make "The Larry Sanders Show". He, Shandling and Jeffrey Tambor were perfect.

I am line freak from movies or TV shows and Rip Torn had an all time top 3 for me and his delivery was perfect. In this episode, he's despondent and getting drunk all alone in the balcony and Larry happens upon him. He offers Larry a drink out of his bottle of scotch and Sanders asks "is this good scotch"? Artie relies, in a way only he can deliver "when you die and go to heaven and say hello to God and He says Hi back, this will be on his breath". An instant classic.

What a great job of casting on a show with another known to be a little difficult. There's a great doc on Garry Shandling. If you even get the chance, watch it.
