I dunno know about that though. Just looking at the current DLs & LBs on the roster, I just don't see where going back to a 4-3 would be difficult other than at DT.....
I've been thinking about this as well. I think our personnel could translate pretty well to a 4-3. Bradie in the middle Carpenter at the Sam and we would finally have a place for Burnett at the Will.

Spears and Ratliff are both big enough to play inside rotating with Ferguson and someone (maybe Stanley). And move Canty to the strong side DE with Ellis coming in as a pass rusher. Let Hatcher and Ware rotate on the other side with Ware as a pass rush specialist.

I don't see it as being a huge switch around.

That's the angle the NFL Network was playing up this morning, and to be honest, it makes alot of sense - Wade Phillips to coach for now (he can't seem to motivate that long, he's so laid back) with Garrett groomed to take over.

It makes sense, but I doubt that is what happens.

It does make sense -- but the more I think about it the more that I see it makes sense from a speculation standpoint. But practically, it would be very difficult to pull off.

These guys who you'd like to have in and groom to take over - Garrett would be one, Singletary the other, I just don't see why they'd want to leave a job for a minor promotion - and I doubt their teams would let them even interview.

If we want Garrett or Singletary, we are going to have to take a leap of faith and bring them in as HC. That scares me.

Ellis commented yesterday that it would be a huge switch - Me, I'd hate to see Ware playing DE when he so clearly is a great 3-4 OLB. Making him just a pass rush specialist would be awful. He's outstanding against the run as well.

I don't think Singletary is realistic, although I have no idea whether defensive coordinator is higher than assistant head coach, or whatever crazy title Nolan has given to Singletary.

But Garrett is only the QBs coach in Miami. I think he'd take an OC position in a second. Of course, if it can be construed as an upgrade in any sense, money always talks.

I don't know much about Grimm, but Cowher played for the Browns, so don't let the Commanders thing fool you.

Bradie was terrible in the middle in a 4-3 before. Although granted he was terrible in the 3-4 at the end of the year too. But as Stanley has pointed out I think finding an outstanding MLB would be a necessity to go back to the 4-3 - someone like Dat with speed.

I also don't see Canty having the burst to be an edge rusher in a traditional 4-3 DE role, and maybe not Spears either. Maybe they could switch to 3 technique DT like Glover, but we don't know for sure.

I would also take into consideration Parcell's comments about playing 60 plays a game at DE for Ware. Yes I know others do it at his weight like Jason Taylor, but everyone has a different motor and stamina level. Bill was pretty convinced it wasn't ideal for him, so we just don't know.

Rex Ryan for sure, we simply dont have the personnel to run the tampa2 that Rivera is incharge of in Chicago.

Aside from the top notch MLB that's necessary, and competent 4-3 DTs, and pass-rushing ends, and dual coverage safeties, what EXACTLY are we missing?!?!?!?!?!

My own preference would be for Rex Ryan as well (vs. Rivera).

I just think it would be a quicker adaptation period on defense.

This is Madden 2007 talk, thats all it is. Just because Spears and etc are big enough to play inside is irrelevant, they are NOT viable options at 4-3 defensive tackle. Canty is a 3-4 end, and has been his entire life, Ware is one of the best outside linebackers in the league and you want to make him a pass rush specialist?!?!?!:bang2::bang2:

Spears wasn't exactly glowing as a 3-4 DE and would be pushed by Hatcher come TC. Playing DT would give him another opportunity to be relevant considering he was a 1st rounder.

As for Ware, HELL YES I'd like to see him just concentrate on rushing the passer and playing the run ala Charles Haley & Dwight Freeney! Why would I want him dropping into coverage and away from the line of scrimage?
