Philip Rivers (ACL surgery) will play about one quarter in the Chargers' exhibition opener Saturday against Dallas.

QBs don't get hit in camp practice, so this will be Rivers' first live action since the AFC Championship. He's adjusting to a new center with Nick Hardwick out and will be minus Vincent Jackson (hamstring) and Antonio Gates (foot).

For the love of God, what are they thinking? No Gates, Jackson and Hardwick? For one quarter? That's practically a death sentence unless he hands off to LT the whole time.

I don't think they do it for the pre-season games.

10:00 PM your time and it is on NFL Network live.

Sweep the leg!

If Rivers is in there for more than five plays or so, that could be about four plays too many. Dead meat Rivers! Although it would be nice to beat him down some more in the Super Bowl, so hopefully he doesn't get a season-ending injury. A fairly significant concussion or maybe a separated shoulder (non-throwing arm, of course) would work nicely. :laugh2:

I love the fact that Rivers will see some extended action. Our Defense will get a chance to get some good work in against a talented group.

I know this is more the coach's call, but I've always felt that LT had a little bit of girl in him. Think about it...

1) He throws a tantrum on the field after losing to the Patriots two years ago

2) He pulls himself out of the game last year

3) He doesn't play in preseason games

4) And last, but not least, he has the lamest endzone celebration I think I have ever seen, getting up on his tippy toes like some ballerina and doing a dainty little finger roll with the football, with his other hand behind his head like he's posing for Victoria's Secret. I cringe when I see it.

And I must add, when saying he has a little bit of girl in him, I do not intend to question the toughness, either mental or physical, of girls (who I think are much tougher than guys in many ways), but it is simply an expression. I could use "raging homo," but that's not politically correct. :laugh1:

I wonder why Norv is going to play him so much?

Because he wants him to gain experience against the team he is going to see in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, his experience is likely to be a very painful, injury-filled one.

At least, that's my hope. :LOL
