Two road playoff wins under Jimmy Johnson...because those teams were so dominant Dallas clinched homefield advantage more often than not.
Don’t forget Gallup was a starting WR for that game and a washed up Zeke had 26 yards on 10 carries. Cee Dee had 2 catches. Horrible defense and an offense with serious holes (WR and RB). But blame Dak because that’s all you know how to do.Don’t forget about the playoff game where the defense held SF to 19 points and Dak led the team to a whopping 12 points. Dak and Romo were contributors in these losses.
Here’s the corrected road playoff numbers in the 70s:The 72 team played 0 road playoff games.
The 78 team played 0 road playoff games.
The 92 team played 1 road playoff game.
The 93 team played 0 road playoff games.
The 95 team played 0 road playoff games.
Yea, you want to be good on the road, but it's not a measure of anything.
I think he made it clear he had it wrong. I actually tried to correct to a point but was wrong myself and deleted it. I did this work recently and knew the total in history was six. Here’s the corrected road playoff numbers in the 70s:
Six road playoff wins from 70-78.
- 1970 season - 1 road playoff win (@SF NFC championship)
- 1971 season - 1 road playoff win (@Minn div round)
- 1972- 1 road playoff win (@SF div round)
- 1975- 2 road playoff wins (@Minn, @LARams in NFC championship)
- 1978 - 1 road playoff win (@LARams in NFC championship)

Best way is to wait and see if GB goes downhill or stays the same, or gets better. In their storied 66 year history, the Dallas Cowboys have won 36 playoff games, ranked 4th all time after the pats, niners, and packers. For nearly 2 and a half decades, the Cowboys had the most playoff wins.
In this great team timeline there have been a ton of really good teams. And certainly a few elite, great teams. If you want to measure the great teams, they are usually marked by their ability to win playoff games on the road. Something the Cowboys were certainly known for at one time - winning tough playoff games on the road.
To illustrate this point, in its history the Cowboys have won 10 ROAD playoff games. If you look at when they happened, you can see how difficult it is to win playoff games on the road.
COWBOYS ROAD PLAYOFF WINS
We all know all about the infamous 30 year drought without even one conference championship game appearance. Within this same era - in fact over the last 33 years, the Cowboys have won ONE road playoff game, the 2022 wild card win at Tampa to end Tom Brady’s career.
- 1970-82: 7 Road playoff wins (all under Tom Landry and 2 were NFC championship games!)
- 1991-95: 2 Road playoff wins (both under Jimmy Johnson; 1 was the 92 NFC championship game)
- 2022: 1 Road playoff win (under Mike McCarthy)
The reason this is so telling is unless you are the top seed in your conference (which we have only done 6 times in our entire history) you are going to have to win road playoff games!
The ability to win games on the road measures good teams. The ability to win playoff games on the road measures great teams.
Oh so now that you can’t blame the defense you blame everyone on offense but your boy Dak!Don’t forget Gallup was a starting WR for that game and a washed up Zeke had 26 yards on 10 carries. Cee Dee had 2 catches. Horrible defense and an offense with serious holes (WR and RB). But blame Dak because that’s all you know how to do.
Yea, I’m not so sure road playoff wins define greatness as much as just winning playoff games generally. For if you have great regular seasons you’re at home for the playoffs. Two road playoff wins under Jimmy Johnson...because those teams were so dominant Dallas clinched homefield advantage more often than not.
Yep, and why this winning playoff games on the road is not a true testament. Cause most of the great teams are playing at home. Especially now with some road playoff teams with better records like when we won at Tampa.I think he made it clear he had it wrong. I actually tried to correct to a point but was wrong myself and deleted it. I did this work recently and knew the total in history was six.
Point being needing three in one season just to get into the SB now if you don’t win your division. I mean the rules are way different and have been changed several times.
Bob….didnt they determine home field based on alternating year to year or something similar? Thats just crazy.
Bottom line is the Cowboys teams that were good enough to go far didn’t typically have to play road games.
All you have to do is look at Dak Prescotts career horrible record against teams that finish the year with a top 10 defense.
Exactly. In 1992 the NFC was top heavy, San Fran was 14-2 and Dallas was 13-3.Yea, I’m not so sure road playoff wins define greatness as much as just winning playoff games generally. For if you have great regular seasons you’re at home for the playoffs.
For the record only one of those road playoff wins Jimmy had led to anything. The first one in Chicago was his first playoff game and we lost the next game in divisional round convincingly.
At SF was only big road playoff game we won with Jimmy cause the rest of his playoff wins were at home.
Brady going out on a playoff loss to the Cowboys is the only highlight of the last 30 years.Watching Tom Brady lose always warms the cockles of my heart
Man. The "Remember When" That's rampant around here is so depressing. The 92 NFC championship game. What a way to kick off a dynasty.
For me it was the perfect bookend for fandom that began with a 7 year old crying over The Catch.
The good news is they can never take our history away . We will always cherish it and so proud of what our franchise once represented.Man. The "Remember When" That's rampant around here is so depressing.
Not that I blame anyone.
The distant, distant past...is all we have
So long as they pop the VHS tapes to jog their memoryThe good news is they can never take our history away . We will always cherish it and so proud of what our franchise once represented.

I lived it. Don’t need tapes. So long as they pop the VHS tapes to jog their memory
Thanks for cheering me up. I'm all fired up now! It’s like a loved one who’s passed. Memory lives on forever.
I’m as down on this era as anyone else but for those of us who lived our glory eras , you can’t take those away. Thanks for cheering me up. I'm all fired up now!
