2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

person
Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona
Despite having missing the 2009 due to back surgery, Gronkowski took a big gamble by declaring for the 2010 draft. He did have a very productive career for the Wildcats, playing extensively during his freshman year and posting very good numbers (47 receptions, 672 yards with 10 TDs). Though he did slide a bit in 2008, recording only 28 catches for 525 yards and 6 scorers.
When healthy, 'Gronko' looks like a young Jason Witten. He is a natural athlete who shows good body control and coordination to adjust to the ball. He can make the tough catches and displays superb hands. Runs good, crisp routes. Is smooth and fluid. Is a strong, competitive runner. A better-than-average blocker who consistently shows good balance and strength to absorb hard hits.

Biggest concern is his back. Also, lacks the top end speed (4.70est) needed to outrun the defense and score on long touchdowns. Uses quickness to burst off the line, but lacks the explosiveness to get behind the defense immediately.

Gronko has the size, strength and agility to become a top flight TE in the NFL; all depends on his health. If he is cleared to play, the team that drafts him will get a solid, all around tight end. He will probably need a year or two to develop before his impact matches his ability. Because this looks to be an average class, Gronko could be drafted higher than he will grade.
