Rob Ryan Fired per twitter ESPNDallas **merged**

Haha I don't understand the outrage. Other than from people who hate everything Jerry and Jason do, and if that's the case find a new team because they aren't going anywhere.

Rob underperformed and the Cowboys have someone better in mind. Simple as that.

He had intensity & his defense was missing many starters & he did a decent job with all things considered. But I won't miss his cussing, spitting tyrades on sideline. Let's bring in some class such as Lovie Smith (4-3) or Romeo Cornell (3-4) both of these guys will motivate the players and display proper character, not being a character! I still can't get over a Ryan coaching in Dallas anyway.

come on people, you really think Lovie would come here as a Def. Coordinator when there are plenty of HC options available?

i'm all for optimism, but that's just wishful thinking

And what position did Ryan say he was most interested in this past offseason when it came to reviewing available talent for the draft?

The secondary.

If the secondary was overbuilt at the expense of the front seven, then Ryan was right there leading the parade.

And that would be another reason to support his firing... yes?

You're paying Rob Ryan to coach the talent not acquire it.

I read those quotes. But I don't know if that was legit or merely a coach backing his team's moves. They do do that, ya know? Coach speak.

I'm not really concerned with what Rob wanted. What he got wasn't good enough. Anybody who thinks Lovie Smith could come in here and get this same group of players in that same circumstance with the injuries and rapidly improve it with a ton of turnovers is crazy.

All I know is about 6 short weeks ago Rob was the genius holding the defense together with spit and glue. Now he's a piece of crap who everybody always hated and thought was overrated.

What could have occurred in between to cause that?

Hope it isnt Kiffin. He is like 90 years old and his defense got roasted this year.

I actually think Kiffin's an interesting option.

I'm not sure about Wannstedt, though. Has he coached any top defenses since his time in Dallas?

You go find a new team. I was a fan many years before Jerry and Jason came along.

Exactly right. Judging the reactions on here, you would've thought we lost Dick Lebeau.

Lovie's always wanted to coach in Dallas, so its not that far fetched if he doesn't like any of the HC openings.

Just another part of the "process"

I guess Ryan was not the "RKG"

Wow! We had Joey the unemployed carpet salesman starting at LBer and freddy the four fingered dock worker at NT at the end. What scheme would they have preferred? They did everything but Duck and Cover.

This really has me pissed, and i never knew I was a Ryan fan. He helped this team a lot more than he got credit for. You see what you can do with a bunch of 3rd and 4th string defensemen.

Lol you are only a fan because it wasn't Garrett. Same as 90% in this thread.

According to a source, the reviews of now-fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan weren't good, despite him having to play with an injury-riddled unit.

The Cowboys found that his schemes and philosophy at times were unsound. They also felt he was inconsistent in his attack, considering he blitzed too much in his first season and got burned because poor play in the secondary. The Cowboys gave up 3,906 yards through the air, the most passing yards allowed in team history in 2011.

They made moves in the offseason to upgrade the personnel, namely the addition of cover corners Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne, to improve the pass defense so Ryan could play his aggressive style.

Yet Ryan rarely blitzed and chose to play conservatively in 2012 as opponents averaged 355.4 yards per game, the most in team history The Cowboys allowed an average of 22.4 points per game. They had 34 sacks, seven interceptions and nine forced fumbles. The 16 turnovers were a franchise low.

A few of names to keep in mind as possible replacements for Ryan are Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton, who has experienced running the 3-4 and 4-3 defense, former Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel, a 3-4 guru, and former Bears coach Lovie Smith, who is a 4-3 coach.

Yet the same outside advisors found Garrett was worth keeping?

On second thought, the way Jason Garrett made one offense sputter this year....maybe HE should be def coord.

Glen "stretch" Smith constantly complained about Ryan about how he schemed. So I'm not surprised if this was the reason he was let to.
