Rob Ryan

How about this stat. When the game is on the line, Ryans D steps up.

Cowboys are 2nd in the NFL with 4th Quarter sacks with 16. And from November on, the Cowboys are #1 in the NFL with 10 4th Quarter sacks.

It's too soon to grade Ryan's defensive coaching, we have nothing solid to base a judgement on because of the injuries. Even though the defense has been bad he should get some credit for getting to perform as well as they have.

It's mind boggling how this team can never ever get all three phases of the game performing well at the same time.

Lots of teams have injuries -- it's part of the game. Yes, the Cowboys have been harder than most, however, I don't think the statistics lie.

Pass defense is currently ranked 26th in the league -- which is less than last season.

Rush defense isn't doing well either.

What can be said is they are doing a good job of bending but not breaking -- there is something to be said for that.

I'll stand by my opinion -- I don't think Ryan sucks -- I just don't think he has done anything particularly great in his two years in Dallas -- especially considering the talent level.

You can't use the "every team gets injuries" line here. This is such a unique case. Two best DT's out. Two best LB's out. Best safety out.

Ryan has done an unbelievable job all things considered.

Fortunately, I think the Rex Ryan stink may keep teams away from the Ryan family for HC gigs this offseason, but we'd be lucky to have that be the case.

I don't like Rob Ryan, and I don't think he's a great coordinator. I think there's almost zero chance a team wants him right now for a head coach, either. I do think he and his staff have done a good job this season under very difficult circumstances. And I think his defense is a pretty good fit for our talent and works nicely with JG's offense and general preferences for the team. I'm basically resigned to him being here another year.

Guys are too caught up in stats. Yes, this defense is not nearly where we NEED it to be. However, one thing this defense does that it didn't do last season or even the year before is that when it needs a key stop whether its to get back in the game or to take lead they get it. So i'm sure your an pull up stats that say we are probably middle of the pack or worse but one thing I take away from this team is that they know how to get stops when they need them.

Wow. Its amazing some of the stats we put up in the 2nd half of games. Makes you wonder why they aren't there in the 1st half.

Considering what he has had to overcome injury-wise, and STILL has a top 10 D and us in a position to make the playoffs, is nothing short of remarkable. Soooooo.....do we lose him after this year??

He has done a nice job, but he is not head coach material

I doubt it. Some would argue that his brother is a better overall coach than he is and he is not doing so well.

The loud mouth buffoon routine with the Ryan brothers is wearing thin.

Well, that didn't take long. :D

Not the direction I was going in but there is relevance to your statement. :p:

As boisterous as they about their greatness, they are both decent defensive strategists. Maybe they should accept that and just be the best DCs they can be.

Good OC's get HC jobs left and right. Good DC's don't get HC jobs very often. Great DC's get the HC jobs. RR is no where near a great DC, and it's debatable whether he's really all that good either.

the defense isn't a top-10 defense. But, it's better than last season and much better than 2010. And he's done it with so many injuries.

He won't get a HC gig. He needs to really show he can put forth dominating defenses. Particularly since people have cooled off on his twin brother. I actually think Rex is a good HC, he just doesn't have a QB. But, Rex and Rob are too animated for owners and GM's. Rex got a job after putting forth dominating defenses in Baltimore. But, it took Rex a long time to get a job.

I like what I've seen. I think if we can get better at safety and stay healthy, we could see a legit, top-3 defense in 2013.

Despite the injuries, I can't see any non-homer way of ranking his performance as a DC as anything but "ok".

agreed 100%
