Yuck.

Anyone excited about this guy? They cant seem to find a position for him and the reports arent glowing.

he has been up and down..pretty much expected for a 2nd year guy who missed all of his rookie season

He is what we thought he was. A quality backup that was going to get shifted to guard and won't crack the starting lineup.

I'm trying to figure out the Sam Young hype. I know there aren't many teams with quality backup offensive linemen, but outside of Barron and Holland (meh) I'm very worried if one of our guys go down and we get Proctor'd again.

Broaddus said today in the camp chat that he's slow footed. Doesn't sound like he's very promising.

BryanBroaddus:
Robert Brewster has slow feet....he really struggles when he has to deal with quickness around the corner, Octavien no problem. [via Twitter]

Bryan Broaddus definitely isn't a fan, but there have been some other reports where Robert Brewster did some good things. He seems very inconsistent, the pre-season will be big as he adjusts to playing NFL football for the first time.

But even Timmy Mac thinks Brew will eventually move inside to guard this year with Alex Barron being the swing tackle and rookie Sam Young the inactive fourth tackle.

I just saw a quote from Houck today that he seems to be intriqued by Sam Young. He was saying something about how he's a much better player than Houck had originally thought. Hopefully another quality back up there.

Thats the thing. Besides Free I dont know if we have a young future starter on the roster.

Sam Young might be a JAG-ish RT. But at G/C its pretty bare.

For some reason, when we take college Tackles that most scouts see as having to move inside, we start them out as tackles. Then we get down on them becaue they suck as tackles.

BTW - reports out of Chicago have James Marten looking good playing G.

I'm impressed that he started that many games in a pro style offense against decent (thats being generous) competition. I'm concerned that he doesn't have much of a ceiling in terms of becoming more talented or physically gifted, what you see is what you're gonna get from him.

Houck has a good eye for talent but I'm concerned about our offensive line's motivation more than anything. Like my old coaches used to tell our pansy WRs, blocking is a want to thing. You've got to want to put that guy on his *** or it's never gonna work. A lot of times last year, particularly on the interior line I didn't think our guys 'wanted to' do much of anything but collect a check and help Romo up off the ground.

He's esentially a first year player, I'm willing to give him a couple to figure it out.

Honestly, not many teams with a starting group like ours have a bunch of young guys in the stable.

Just A Guy

Just not used to referring to people like that, sorry haha. So you're saying he shouldn't even make the team since he's JAG or that he'd be servicable?

What are you saying? B/C our line is so good? I disagree, they always seem to be at the scene of the crime during every bad moment.

Unless you mean we are so stacked across the board we are bound to have some weaknesses somewhere. Of course.

Im not *****ing, just a note that of the young guys projected to be something down the line only Free really instills confidence. We are probably going to need 1 new starter per year from here on out until its a totally new 5 from last years group

Its not a good description. I mean, you can get by w/ those guys but you are always looking to churn at their spot. For example Ken Hamlin was a JAG. He didnt kill us but he didnt stand out, step up, or really help the team tremendously. He was a starting player who we replaced when we found someone we liked

Yeah, our OL is far from being a strong-point. I foresee us spending a lot of early round picks in the next couple of years to fix what is going to become a major issue in the near future.

No, I'm saying that if you look around the league you will be hard pressed to find an OL that sports 2 pro bowl players, 2 long time starters, and a bunch of young studs ready to take over.

You can say "we will need one new starter" every year from now ... but that isn't anything surprising or strange. If those guys were already here Columbo or Gurode would already be gone and the young guy would have their spot

Ah.. gotcha. Well i'd give him a couple years to develop at least. Looks like if Houck is impressed with him he may have some talent.
