Robert Griffin III

In fact i've heard many commentators compare RG3 to Young.

give me one name

in print where I could find this ? give me a link

that guy that does the Baylor broadcasts is a worset a HOMER I have ever heard

Baylor looked lackadaisical at times — especially with some of the playcalling/execution in the final minutes — while K-State played up a level.

Going forward, you have to wonder what RGIII’s level of play is going to be. The month of September was good for the junior, but road games at Texas A&M and Oklahoma State are just a couple of weeks away. Make no mistake: Griffin is still an early season Heisman favorite, but Baylor’s success or failure can’t just be on Griffin’s shoulders; his teammates will have to step up their productivity as well

Well then you neglect the recent past with Elway, Young and to a lesser extent Favre and Montana, the scrambling threat was a huge part of their game.

Neglect? I don't consider RG3 in the same class of QB as Elway, Steve Young, et cetera, as a passer.

You're taking one aspect, the fact he can run, and putting a ton of value in that one trait. RG3 is not a rarity in college football in that he's a QB that can run and throw with success at the college level; college football is littered with those types of QBs every year. It's also not surprising to me tht he's finding success statistically in Baylor's spread offense. There's a reason why the spread offense is dominating the landscape of college football.....it works!

I'm not glossing over running/scrambling ability as a benefit. It clearly is. But as a pro prospect, your legitimacy as a QB will be defined by how you proficient you are as a passer. I'm looking beyond his current gaudy passing numbers, which I'm sure will come back down to earth by the time the season ends. Instead, I'm looking at how his game, as it stands now, will translate to the NFL.

I'm just not that overly impressed with RG3 as a passer right now for all the same reasons I mentioned in my previous post.

Consider Andrew Luck as a prospect. Right now, RG3 is trumping his numbers on a stat sheet, but any scout will tell you Luck is clearly the better QB because of his past/current performance, the pro-like system he plays in at Stanford, his arm, decision making, et cetera

I won't argue with anyone that's enamored with RG3. I just don't see this gauranteed Top 5-10 lock that a lot of folks apparently are seeing.

I don't think he should be a Top 5-10 pick either without looking at the rest of the field. But I think he'll go in the first round.

I don't think he's coming out at all this year anymore, i see him making a Heisman run next year and then being a top pick, he's only 21 and about to finish his masters, pondering a JD.

He looks to be making a Heisman run this year.

I tend to agree.

Baylor isn't BCS ready just yet, they might be next year though with another round of stellar recruiting, RG3 and the fact the formerly number one recruited runningback Lache Seastrunk from Oregon has transferred and will be eligible to play running back next season.

Not quite sure what that has to do with him making a Heisman run this season.

You kind of have to be BCS eligible to win it.

He's not staying another year.

Drew Brees is every bit of 6'1"....

I don't know Mike Greenberg and Skip Bayless have both repeatedly said Brees is listed at 6' but is definitely shorter than that.

he meant BCS invite, baylor is going to have a hard time winning more than 8 games in the present Big 12 competition, maybe next year they can take on OU and okie State but this year it's unlikely.

I love Baylor, but I'm realistic, RG3 will be back next year though and they'll be a pretty outstanding team, maybe good enough to make a run at the whole conference, perhaps the Rose Bowl, but this year that's not likely.

I disagree, he's loyal to Briles and believes in Baylor, i really think he wants to leave Baylor as a top 10 team.

I know that he's loyal to Briles. I just also KNOW barring anything drastic happening, he's not staying another year.

The only real concern with Griffin is his durability at the NFL level. First of all, he's not a very big guy. He's listed at 6'2", 215 I think but I've met the kid, shook his hand (great kid BTW, has his head on straight and is incredibly well spoken compared to your typical D-1 athlete) and if he's that big then my doctor has been lying to me for years. He might be 200 if he was soaking wet. He also has the dreaded small lower legs/ankles that NFL scouts hate and tends to go into a shell when he gets hit.

In terms of talent though, he's got one of the best combinations of speed and passing ability I've ever seen. He's what Reggie McNeal should have been if not for Dennis Franchione and infinitely more NFL ready than Vince Young ever will be.

He's really, really smart and doesnt seem like the kind of person who would say he's staying and then not.

I don't speak on it because it's not a huge bonus to me. This is a passing league; the best QBs in this league are known for the elite passing aspect of their game. There is an anamoly in Mike Vick, but I don't even consider him an elite QB. The bottomline in this league is that you have to be able to move the ball through the air against complex defensive schemes, through tight windows, with pinpoint accuracy and uncanny anticipation, against supreme athletes in the secondary.

RG3 is an interesting prospect having a tremendous year thus far. However, having seen him play, I'm highly skeptical of how his game translates to the pro game. It's it's not just the fact he plays in spread offense, is a bit of a scrambler, et cetera. I could show you highlights of Graham Harrell a few years ago that would have you thinking he's a surefire future HOF at the next level.

That is not what I meant. You called him a pass/run QB. I think most people who look at him see a passer and don't consider the run aspect. I didn't see anyone even talk about his running abilities in this thread. It was mostly about his passing as it should be. Sure he can run, but they are judging him on his passing abilities which are pretty good. I judge him as a passer. That is why I think the running is only a bonus. With other guys like Vick, Young and Tebow, they were runners who could pass some. I would like Griffin even if he couldn't run fast. I like him as a passer and he isn't the only QB I like this season.

And you need to get over the spread offense stuff. More and more QBs coming out of college are playing in spread offenses. It seems that most of them play in some sort of spread offense in college. They all have to adjust to the NFL.

BCS Bowl Eligible is what I should have said. The award generally goes to the best player on the best team at the end of the year.

So take your pick between Oklahoma and LSU at this point.
