My sons football team won their first game of the season today. It's his first game experience in his young life. I swear, honestly, I can't remember having this much fun at a football game, ever. I was all over the place and trying to do my best not to interfere with the coaches (those clueless bastids! :D ) but how can you help yourself? Seriously. I wasn't ejected nor was I verbally reprimanded via the coaching 'staff' but when he made a couple of plays, I belly-bumped the freakin' ref! That went over like a lead balloon.

I was so amped up that I seriously considered handing the yard marker kid my last 4 bucks to move the sticks back about 3 yards. ;)

Anyways, it was a good football day and I'm more than sure I am not the only parent who's ever experienced the complete joy and admiration of having a child compete in a sport. Wow........

LOL! I remember my son's first season playing...I used to try to record them w/ my vid-cam but I was so into the games I usually recorded more of the turf than the game! I even used to get hyped up at his practices!! Good times! Enjoy it and good luck to his squad this season!!

Get a grip, ... act like you've been there before!

Just kidding, .. enjoy! These times will pass very quickly.

I can relate. My son plays CB.

In a game a few weeks ago his team was down 15-8 with 10 seconds remaining before the halftime. The opposing team had the ball at about the 15-20 yard line. Last play before the half no timeouts remaining. QB throws the ball towards the endzone...my son intercepts the ball at the 1 and runs it back 99 yards for the TD! Of course THERE WAS SOME EXCELLENT convoy blocking to help my little guy out.

Rest assured anyone within a two mile radius of that stadium heard me screaming! My son's team went on to win the game 27-15 and he also got him another pick in 3rd quarter.

Good times no doubt!

Gentlemen.....Thanks for ressurecting this thread.

nyc......I think we're doing a flop plan of your sons season. We're probably going to get drubbed this weekend. BUT.......they moved my boy to DE! Must re-configure his jersey number......... 94 should look good. :D

Behind Enemy Lines........I ditched the camera after the first play. Took me an hour to find it afterwards. So far the coaches have displayed a vast amount of patience during practices. If they make it thru the season with me still present, I'm buying them a trophy.

This weekend .....I'm paintin' my face and bringing an airhorn!! ;)

Awesome! 94 WILL look very nice!

I have two sons playing...#19 and #88...ha lol!

I have a young one who is playing his first season of tackle football and another who has played 5 years. I can't imagine missing a game! I look forward to their games more than anything.

If you have any video of your son playing you should post it. I know I posted a video last year and I am in the process of putting together a small highlight film of this season so far.

I know, right?

Times do fly. He's been wanting to play from the age of 8 but I really didn't think he was ready and I didn't want to burn him out on the sport. That seems like yesterday and here we are already. Father. Son. Football Saturday.

Nice, gb. Twice the fun! I have a hard time with the 6 days in between the Saturdays myself. Best of luck to your kid's squads.

I'll try and do a video. Can't guarantee I'll hold on to the camera to get anything tho. Like Behind Enemy Lines I'll probably get a lot of grass and sky shots! Look forward to seeing yours. Please be sure to post that!!

I know what you mean in regards to holding onto the camera. It is almost impossible to get good video due to excitement trumping the steady hand needed for filming!

Here is a video that I posted last year (I think). It covers third grade through 5th grade if I am not mistaken. He is now playing 7th grade select ball for a different team. I'll post this seasons highlights when I get around to uploading it onto youtube.

Good luck to your son's squad as well! I hope to see some video soon...if you can manage to pull that off! ;)

I really wish my son was still playing club ball! His school let's 8th graders play on their JV squad so he's beginning his foray into High school sports. Enjoy these times, Seven, because they seem to fly by so quickly! I don't know what to do with myself now that I don't have to take him to practice in the evenings or games on Saturdays (most of their games are during the week)!

Wow! That little guy has some skills, seriously! He's a natural. Ball control and he isn't afraid to tackle....... Small problem with most of the kids on our squad. ;)

Great Video!

BUMP!!!!

My Son was moved to LDE last week during a scrimmage. The boy there, coaches son, couldn't shed a block and was slow. I've been asking the coaches to do this from the first day of practice. He also plays RG on offense.

Let me start with the youth football association here has a weight limit. If your over 70lbs. in the 4th grade, you are a lineman. Period. So they stuck my son in as a DT and OG. Now, he only weighed in at 2lbs into the lineman scale so he was kind of light as linemen go and wasn't geared up for success at that position. He's the second fastest kid on the team btw, which is why I wanted him moved out of the DT position. This age group of football players run a TON of sweeps and I thought my son's speed would help with that.

Today he had his first game at the LDE position and if I'm lyin' I'm dyin'. This kid started the game out with a tackle for loss that was damn near a safety. QB dropped back to pass. Another 1/2 yard and it would've been. He wreaked havoc all day long. They stopped running to his side and lined up the TE in the backfield next to the FB to try and stop him cause they couldn't do it at the LOS. When he wasn't in the QB's face he was disrupting enough to allow the LBer's and DL to finish off the play. (I told him that was just as important as a sack.)

The other team had 2 first downs total and zero points. They were supposed to beat us handily. Run all over us. They had so and so on their team. They had a bigger OL.(They did). They were faster. Today.........they weren't any of that.

I am beside myself with pride and admiration with what my little man did today, almost single handedly. He never stopped. He was relentless and focused and had endless amounts of energy. His eyes never left the ball.

I also have to add that this is a great group of kids and they just mesh together so well. During the game, I ask each one of them periodically if they’re having fun and not a one of them is minus a smile. They all play both sides of the ball and do whatever is asked of them without complaint. Great, great kids.

I couldn't be more proud of a group of young men who strap on the pads as nonchalant as eating a bowl of cereal yet plays with the passion of their house burning down when the whistle blows. Amazing.

We’re 2-0. On a roll.
