We know the kind of guys Rod likes but is it wise to draft his guys given the rumors he considered retirement this offseason and isn’t likely to be here long term. Is Kris Richards the DC in waiting? If so maybe they should draft his guys. I just don’t think drafting for Rod is a wise decision at this point.

A couple of months ago when it was reported that he was considering retirement....that told me the guy is retired. Right then and there Jerry and Stephen had cause to make him retire. Instead he gets to hang around anither year, pick up a big paycheck and muddle things up for Kris Richards.

well by the same token i dont know how hot Garretts seat is this season but you know he has to be under more pressure than he has before
if my job was on the line i would be looking to draft as many impact starters as possible, (have backups for the line which they did since it fell apart without depth) and have little interest in projects or injured guys that wont help for half the season

Yeah that’s the point of view from the coaches but Jerry, Stephen, and Will have to look at the big picture and do what is best for the team long term. Only Jerry and Stephen know how hot JG’s seat is so they have to make decisions accordingly.

So we draft players that don't fit Rod's scheme but fit a possible future scheme?

excellent point..I never thought of that, and if Richards is the heir apparent, then his word should be taken into consideration, but traditionally Rounds 1 and 2 are Jerry and Stephen's anyway, no coach or scout is going to persuade them. not even the Clapping Carrott has a say.
