I thought he did well teaching the fundamentals to the defense and getting the d line to come off the ball quick.
But like all of the coaches on the last staff.. They ignored schemes and thought they could win with talent and fundamentals only.
It's hard for me to hold Marinelli's feet to the fire. His scheme works but the problem, like many other schemes and coaches, is that after a time, teams get wise to it. They understand your personnel and they understand what you can do well and what you can't do well with the current players in any given scheme. This, IMO, is what we saw with Marinelli. For most of his tenure, effort was not the problem. Personnel and simple familiarity was the problem. I wish the guy well. I think he's a lot better coach then what many of our fans give him credit for.
