Roethlisberger is still refusing to talk to cops
Posted by Mike Florio on April 6, 2010 6:47 PM ET
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has the right to remain silent. And he's exercising that right fully and completely.

Milledgeville, Georgia police chief Woodrow Blue has told TMZ that, while the investigation regarding the March 4 claim of sexual assault against Roethlisberger is complete, they'd still like to talk to the accused. But Ben ain't talking.

And so prosecutors will have to decide whether to prosecute Roethlisberger without any further input beyond whatever he said during a brief interview at the scene of the alleged incident.

Meanwhile, the Court of Public Opinion will likely continue to suspect that Ben's decision not to talk flows from an effort to conceal the truth.

I think this definitely means he has something to hide.

If I didn't do it I want to talk to the cops as much as I can.

Talking to the cops isn't going to find you not-guilty in a court of law. It's pointless to talk to them. Just wait till your court day.

He may want to talk but his lawyer is telling him not to.

Or you could talk to them and maybe avoid a court day.

and after about 8 hours you'd say something stupid and get charged even if you weren't in the same building as the girl.

Talking to the cops never helps you. Ever.

The only time it does is if you have a clear alibi during the initial spot interview.

After the fact? You can only hurt yourself. Any alibis at this point in an investigation are likely to be seen as BS in court, due to the time allotted to you to be able to corroborate your story with any "witnesses" of your alibi.

Agreed. I'll bet he is being told to keep his mouth shut to avoid anything that could be construed as guilt. My guess is this is standard operating procedure when there are possible charges against you.

Wrong answer. It is highly unlikely that anything he told law enforcement would help him. It could only hurt him. Besides, anything he wants law enforcement to know he could tell them through his attorney.

Bingo. We have a winner. If hes not speaking to the police, he is getting good legal advise.

The "court of public opinion" can't sentence you to prison time.

Police finish investigation

Associated Press

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Milledgeville police say they have finished their investigation into a 20-year-old college student's claim that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her.

Chief Woodrow Blue said in a statement Wednesday that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Milledgeville police handed the investigation report and witness statements to local District Attorney Fred Bright on Tuesday evening.

A woman who answered the phone at Bright's office Wednesday said the DA had just received the documents and would not comment before reading them.

Roethlisberger is accused of sexually assaulting the student at a nightclub in Milledgeville on March 5. Roethlisberger has not been charged and his lawyer disputes the accusation.

No kidding.

If the cops arrested me for, say, JFK's murder... even though its impossible (I wasn't alive)... I still wouldn't talk to them willingly. Or without a lawyer.
