Roger has been with the NFL since 1987. Maybe he got in due to his father, but his father died in 1987, and he rose through the ranks all the way up. I may not like his decisions on handful of things, but I don't think he was given the commissioner position due to his dad.

Besides, professional sports are full of nepotism.

Wow. I never could’ve guessed his dad was a republican senator.

Entitled and an ***hole. Great combination.

For a long time, Goodell never told Foil about his famous father. Then, one day, Foil asked Goodell what he planned to do with his life. "I’m going to be commissioner of the NFL," Goodell declared. "That’s when he mentioned his father, who knew [then commissioner] Pete Rozelle," Foil remembered. "I said, ’You’re really set on this?’ He said, ’I’m gonna do it, Tim. I’m gonna do it.’ "

Pay attention to the Kraft-Goodell favoritism.

Goodell rarely went out front to face tough interviews. But Kraft was one of Goodell’s closest confidants among the NFL’s thirty-two owners, and his fiercest advocate and defender. As a member of the league’s compensation committee, Kraft has vigorously defended Goodell’s eye-popping $44 million pay package, and in the wake of the TMZ leak, he personally called owners and lobbied them to issue statements backing the commissioner, according to a senior league source. So large is Kraft’s sway with Goodell that one veteran NFL ecutive likes to call him "the assistant commissioner."

As I said, this idea about Kraft being against Goodell is just absurd. Their connections run deep and Kraft is among the foremost to favor Goodell's salary package and considering Ted Kennedy's relationship to Goodell, it's no surprise the former got involved when Spectre was breathing down the neck of the NFL.

Plus, Kraft basically has the CBS connections which help Goodell from a media standpoint. The GQ article actually reveals why Goodell and Kraft had to play the Deflategate angle, because internally there was opposition within NFL circles regarding the cheating.

Don't be surprised when the media starts attacking Jerry as the one being petty. But it's clear opposition to the salary of Goodell goes back to multiple owners and a few years.
