not sure why the owners didn't just pay some other guy 10 million dollars to be a turd instead. could have saved some cash

Why would the league agree to pay him that? He's literally stealing money while single-handedly making NFL ratings go down the drain.

I'm sorry but there are THOUSANDS of men and women (maybe even some toddlers) that could do RG's job if they don't mind the criticism .....He takes heat off the owners, collectively, that's why he's still on the job.

NFL is a business. Its revenues have doubled on Goodell's watch. Whether you like him personally or not, it's hard to deny his success as a commissioner from a $$ perspective. I suppose that's how the owner measure his success. And a down year in ratings is not a trend. Anyone who writes off 10 years of business success because of one stat is missing the big picture.

They went up because Jerry is the one person who can get more revenue $$$$$ from the TV's contracts.
And his daughter shows the old timers how to get more revenue flow into their teams before a ball is snapped.

A person is worth what another person is willing to pay .
He isn't over payed or under payed.
The free market determines worth.

There's no doubt in my mind that plenty of people that are far better qualified than Goodell could have been gotten for much cheaper and done a much better job.

The free market isn't determining his worth, it's just a dumb decision by the owners to hire this rube.

I don't blame Goodell for taking the money, I blame the owners for thinking that they must have a puppet instead of realizing that what's best for the league will line their pockets even more in the end.

I blame Goodell for being so greedy to be a puppet and not recognizing that what is best for the league is best for him in the end and it's extremely unlikely the owners would make him step down just for not being a complete puppet for them.

But actual *worth* is a different story. A factory worker could be paid to make 20 widgets per hour, but is only making 5 widgets per hour. They are not worth what they are being paid to do so. But I can't blame them for taking the money.

The free market determines worth.Goodell is getting payed exactly what the owners want to pay him. That's his value.
Without it you are manufacturing a value the market cannot bare.
Maybe another guy gets less money and he will get exactly what the free market determines.

Unfortunately, you were talking about worth. What the free market pays them is....what the free market pays them. Doesn't mean that they are actually worth what they are being paid.

If I'm a CEO and I'm being paid by an individual company based on me increasing profit by 20% and profits actually decrease by -10%...I'm not worth what I was being paid. The same for say Adam Archuleta who was the highest paid safety in the league by the Skins in 2006 and only ended up starting 6 games. The free market happened to pay him that amount of money, but he actually wasn't *worth* anywhere near that.

Virtually every KPI involved with the league has gone down since Goodell has taken charge.
