This video is a gem, and will start vigorous discussion by itself. Being a leader is so key to success. The reasons for and against the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl in the next decade are stated plainly by Roger the Dodger.

Amen to that brother!

He's STILL my hero! What a great man, a great leader and a great example he has been all these years. :starspin :starspin :starspin :gent:

There is not a man walking the earth that I admire more than that man.

A...you mean outside of me of course. :)

No idea he wasn't a QB till being a senior in high school. He owes that coach big time.

Roger is a big reason we became Americas Team. He truly was an officer and a gentleman. He always put others ahead of himself and displayed it many times yet was one of the most highly competitive people I have seen, Roger so often would sacrifice himself to help the team win, whatever it took Roger was willing to do it. There likely will never be another Roger

Tom Landry and Roger Staubach will always be the face of the Cowboys.

Roger is what Dallas Cowboys football is all about....I wish the younger fans could have witnessed his tenure so it would be easier for them to understand why us older fans feel the way we do about the team even though the last 15 yrs or so haven't produced anymore Lombardis....but this team won't stay down for much longer...we seem to get our success every other decade and that is upon us again...stay positive..good times are just around the corner again.

The parts that jumped out at me, were from 2:00 mark on. He talks about how the personal agendas faded away in the 1971 season, and the team focused on the bigger goal. To me, that sounds similar to what Jason Garrett is trying to compile in terms of character players who can put aside the personal agendas for the bigger goal.

That, and I keyed in on how the division of responsibilities were made possible by an owner who let his coach, scouting, and business aspects be in completely separate lanes. I had to chuckle when he said, "That will never happen again" in reference to the 20 winning seasons.

Maybe Stephen Jones has a shot of being that kind of owner, I can only hope.

Wow, you're easily impressed. All I did was post a video, albeit flawlessly.

Well 71 was the season Roger stepped up and said play me or trade me. He no longer wanted to sit behind Morton and knew the team had to make a choice. Funny it was Lee Roy Jordan and the defense of the Cowboys who met with Landry on the issue that he needed to make a choice.

Those of us lucky enough to see it will always have a special feeling towards that era of the Dallas Cowboys and the game itself.

You're right. I grew up watching the Cowboys at that time and it was a big part of my life. Probably why I am such a die hard fan. I can't imagine not having that...or growing up now with the character issues and not winning for so long. I will always love the Cowboys...
