ROKU just came out with a 2023 draft documentary, and in the second hour of the documentary, a portion of the Cowboys draft board was revealed.

None of the Cowboys draft picks were outside the top 100 players they had rated on their draft board. Their 6th round pick, Deuce Vaughn, was #93 on their draft board, and WR Jalen Brooks, their 7th round pick was ranked #99 on their board.

Also, they had OT Matthew Bergeron and DT Mazi Smith ranked #12 and #13 on their board. If you watch the documentary, there is a whole lot more discussion about whether they should take Bergeron or Smith at #26. They show their discussions between Bergeron and Smith several picks before the Cowboys picked. Apparently the Cowboys NEVER considered taking a TE in the first round. They were locked in on Bergeron and Smith.

The documentary captures inside the draft room discussions for The Colts, Panthers, Jaguars and Cowboys.

I heard them say that they had 4-5 rd grade on deuce and Brooks too. So that makes sense. Shows me that its not just talent but also fit that they consider.

Thanks for the alert.

Those who went on and on about Buffalo "stealing" our pick won't like that. There were many truths about the draft they won't accept because their pet cat wasn't drafted. They railed against Jerry and the Cowboys for weeks after the draft about that.

I'm glad this documentary came out to show those who were so critical about the picks that the Cowboys weren't just picking names out of a hat.

Interestingly, Jerry Jones was really grilling Mike McCarthy on whether he preferred Deuce Vaughn over Jalen Brooks prior to their 6th round pick. Vaughn’s size was really considered. In the end, McCarthy’s answer was that he thought the Cowboys should trust their board, and they chose Vaughn over Brooks. They ended up getting Brooks anyway in the 7th round, which must have been the easiest decision they had in the draft. Brooks was the only player left on their top 100 players.

Another interesting factoid that came out in the discussion about picking Bergeron or Mazi: it was Coach Mike McCarthy, not Coach Dan Quinn, who emphatically reminded everyone in the room that immediately after the 2022 season ended for the Cowboys, that they all agreed run defense was the highest priority deficiency on the team. So, it was as much McCarthy as anyone who wanted Mazi over Bergeron.

That really was a tough decision if they had them #12 and #13,,, I would argue that quality OT personnel are generally harder to come by than a quality NT, so draft the OT and pick up the NT in free agency. They did manage to land Asim Richards late though who looks like a gem so the war room might have got it right.

To not have Dalton Kincaid as a viable option at 26 was pure stupidity.
Moot point as he was not on the board anyway.

I watched the documentary previously and did not notice our exposed draft board. Do you happen to know a minute mark when they showed it? I would like to go back and watch. Teams don’t like their draft boards getting leaked after the draft and yet the Cowboys always see to do it. :D

The Cowboys drafts have been that intensive for quite a while now.

As it evolved, Dallas could have traded back up to get their offensive lineman as well.

A screen shot or a recreation of what they showed would be so choice here.

I don’t remember a screenshot, but the team themselves talked about it. It was a full on hard knocks style documentary but specifically focused on the draft rooms

I noticed that Paxton told them if Philly didn't get Carter, they would take Bijan Robinson.

This is an outstanding documentary. It sure shows the Cowboys in a good light.
