Romo & Danny White

I was thinking how similar Romo and White's careers have been to date (with the exception of White having to follow a legend). Both are considered good but not great QB's, had/have good talent around them and moved the ball a lot. Their prolific numbers say it all. They could/can produce.

They both have the label of "He can't win the big game." White of course DID win playoff games but could never get over the hump into the super bowl. I have always felt bad for him getting sacked in the 1981 NFC championship game.

Romo has not yet won a playoff game in a somwhat short timeframe as starting QB, but the future is bright for him.

Thoughts?

Similiar?

Yes. Similar in that both put up numbers but really have nothing to show for it.

It's still early in Romo's career to say he can't win the big one. Stat wise yeah the similarity is there. Time will tell. One thing Romo has going is his ability to get away from the rush...

It's still too early. Let's see what Romo does next few years.

I believe Troy didn't win a playoff game until his 4th year.

Same thing with P. Manning for years...in fact, that was the knock on him coming out of college as well.

Get a couple of more pieces around Romo and he'll get it done.

Football is a TEAM sport...too bad that the only ones on the team that get a W/L are the coach and the QB....

I don't know that it took many years for White to get us to the playoffs. Back then with Landry missing the playoffs was unusual.

White took the team to 3 NFC Championship games.

So far, there's a big chasm between Romo and White.

Let's hope that chasm closes soon.

Romo>>>>>>White

I could care less about "team" playoff records. I cant stand Romo sometimes, but no way I even consider White as equal to him.

Were you around to watch Danny White actually play?

Danny was a great athlete (qb-punter), but he wasn't nearly as mobile/elusive as Tony. That said, I see no reason why he couldn't have put up the same numbers as Romo today.

I always thought Drew Bledsoe and Danny White were very similar. Very good, pure pocket passers. Man, did White have a gun. He was so great and it was so disappointing not seeing him get us to a SB.

Too bad people do not view him favorably.

White was handed the keys to a proven winner, but didn't have the defenses that Staubach and Aikman had.

Neither does Romo, for that matter, and there was no such winning culture on the team Romo took over.

They both had four consistently very good seasons out of the gate, but White had the advantage of playing in one offensive system all four years.

I just realized that after Romo wins a playoff game, the new spin will be "but he can't win a Superbowl." :(
