For years people on this board were clamoring for Romo not to telegraph the defense by always letting the clock run down to the last second before he snaps the ball ...but looking back all the experts have agreed that Romo is top 5 QB in the league at reading what the defense is going to give him just by looking at where all the defenders are lined up just prior to the snap
.....this should really help Dak in the filmroom every week, he will really get an education from listening and observing what Romo explains each week...and Moore I am told is also a great analyst looking at game film
etc, unfortunately he does not have the physical skill set Romo has to execute the plays the way Romo can

Romo is good regardless.

Consistently letting the clock run down may get the defense to show their hand at times but it also lets them know when the ball is being snapped and it makes it difficult for us to establish a rhythm and results in pre-snap penalties.

I don't mind it as much on the road. I think it's better for those situations but at home we need to put our foot on the gas and overwhelm teams.

The only complaint I have about it is that it gives me anxiety

Haha, me too.

As far as the defensive linemen, I can't imagine they're watching the playclock, I would assume they're watching the ball. Even though I'm sure they know it's getting down to zero

I would like to see some quick snaps on 3rd and one. I remember doing that a lot in the Emmitt years

and defensive players (especially linemen) in stance and waiting can lead to a myriad of mistakes and mental and physical fatigue

It irritates me at times. I understand the purpose, but would rather mix in a few quick snaps as well.
Nothing earth shattering either way

They should consider doing that a little more. Teams are too used to being able to tee off as the clock runs down.

The longer he waits to snap, the more the defense will show their scheme, so I get why he does it. However, I wouldn't mind him doing it if he didn't do it several plays in a row. Throw in a quick snap here and a mid-snap there and I would be fine. It's when he does it on every play that bothers me because defenses are mentally conditioned to spot snap patterns. Of course this excludes late game leads where he's milking the clock. Then I want him to wait to the last second every time :)

I will say this though .. Romo's the calmest quarterback I have ever seen with the play clock counting down its last few seconds on gaming winning drives, 4th down and going for it, etc. with no timeouts. It's almost like the game slows down for him at that point which gives him a huge advantage over the defense.

Manning and Brady do the same thing.

There's not much time to begin with, and you have to read the defense, adjust blocking assighments, change routes, shift the running backs......or call an audible and do all the same.

It's pretty amazing when you think about it.

How about occasionally doing a quick snap and keeping the defense guessing and off guard and keeping your offense less predictable. In my opinion this gives your team much more of a competitive edge. Aaron Rodgers does this. Use every advantage you can get to help improve your odds to win.

I have no problem with Romo doing this ........ I just wish they would change it up sometimes to keep the defense off balance.

Yes and there lies the problem. You need to change it up to keep defense off balance. Occasionally you can catch a defense napping and not ready but Romo doesn't take advantage of those rare but opportunistic situations. I see Brady will snap the ball quickly when one of his WR is WIDE open when the CB wasn't ready. When was the last time we did that??? Or when defensive personnel is still running on or off the field?

Like they are saying above.
Vary how quick you run plays and snap the ball.

You have 25 seconds to shuttle in players, call in the play, break the huddle, line up, read the defense, change the blocking to match the defense, change the routes, or audible entirely.

Not much time.

When you have a stupid quarterback who can't read a defense anyway, you just line up and snap it.

I don't have a problem with Romo waiting until 1 sec to snap the ball but I just don't like when he tries to change the play with 5 seconds left and they end up messing up the play or having to burn a timeout.

Another thing I wish Romo was better at pre snap is his hard counts. We rarely see Romo draw the defense offside with a good hard count. I was amazed when Orton got the start against the Eagles and how he drew the Eagles offsides at least 4 times that game with a amazing hard count. Romo I guess doesn't have the voice to pull it off like some other qb's do.
