Romo and TO

In Parcells PC yesterday the LBOH interpreted Parcells' rationale (better for us as we are presently comprised) for changing to Romo as the offensive line does not block well enough for Bledsoe. Parcells said there was more to it than that and pointed out that Romo has a quicker release, gets the ball out quicker.

The quicker release certainly helps the offensive line, but if it is deeper than just that as Parcells suggests, my theory is that Romo is better at throwing the short WCO routes that TO is so good at slants, curls, outs, crossing routes, etc. Drew never seemed to connect real well with TO on these short routes. He's just not at good at the quick short throws or short drops. Maybe Romo can maximize TO's effectiveness on these routes.

To dovetail on this a little, earlier in the year we showed some empty backfied five wide sets and other spread formations. I would think we might see more of these now with Romo. He's good at the short drops and getting the ball out quickly and he has a chance to make teams pay when they blitz us in this situation. He can also escape the pocket and run if necessary.

Yeah I just heard on ESPN/Cold Pizza that TO and Romo are practicing more than TO and Drew.... and of course.... they couldnt leave out that the rest of the team doesnt like it:rolleyes:

I just had a vision of T.O. taking a ROMO slant pattern to the house for six......to beat the Panthers

Remember those thrown-to-the-back-shoulder sideline passes that Romo kept completing in preseason? I'd like to see if those can work, particularly to TO.

That's a good point. Romo is very good at throwing those.

Well lets see if romo can continue to spread the ball around to many different players.

If we dont need to keep extra blcokers, why isnt there a rb as a release or outlet on a majority of pass plays. i would think you only need the rb to stay in and block when you want a deeper pass play, just as good to have him swing out or slip through the line and turn for a 5 yard pass if the blitz comes. emmitt used to do real well with that.

with 2 probowl wr, a probowl te and a rb for a quick dump off, there should be more options than the defense can handle.

Great point. I have been thinking the same thing myself.

Man I think Romo to T.O. will be the theme throughout the rest of the season, that pass that Bledsoe threw to Terry Glenn at the end of the first half just took the life out of Bill Parcells and the rest of Cowboys Nation! I'm happy to see Big Bill step out and make a change for once...
