What is this years CAP hit on Romo retiring now.
I know the Cowboys can go after some Bonus money paid if they want.
But....
Even if they do not get the actual money back.

Can they apply to the league for CAP relief on the bonus money the should get back?

There is a question being raised about if they (FO) is going to release Tony as a June 1st cut to spread the
cap hit over two years or let Tony retire which will mean they have to take all the cap charges this year. They
would still get about 5mil in additional cap space if that go that option. If they go the retire/reserve route, they
maintain rights to Tony in the future.

I say just take the hit now. Luckily we'll have some impact players on rookie contracts, and no one really needed to be signed this year (we'll have room for Zach Martin next year) beyond rookies. And if need be they can I'm sure restructure somewhere. Get the contract off the books, and be in pretty good shape going forward.

You are right that if they take the hit all this year they are going to have a basket full of money to spend next year.

They will spread the hit out over 2 years...............10.7m this year and 8.9m next

That way they can leave Witten, Dez and TCrawford alone

With Romo and Free retiring they will gain almost 18m in cap space

They only need 1.8m to sign the Draftees and the rest is plenty of cushion for the year

Is there any chance that we just suck up the whole cap hit this year? If I had my way I'd like to just suck it up this year and then go all out next year in FA and make a run.

Or another question I have is if we have a choice when the cap hit counts against us? If he retires now does that give us any choice?

I seriously doubt they go after any unearned signing bonus as long as things stay amicable

Tony doesn't file the papers until after June 1st and DAL doesn't push the issue but keeps his rights

FYI, if they did go after the 12.5m it would be credited back against the cap at 4.2m a year for 3 years as long as he stayed retired

I definitely say just take the whole hit this year. Have to re-sign Martin next year, though I'd do it sooner before another guard sets the market higher. Sherman sounds all well and good but I'd rather go after a good pass rusher. No point in spending $$$ in the secondary if the QB has that much time to throw.

Written? He just restructured his contract. And why restructure anyone at this point?

No one to sign this year. I say take as much of the hit as you can this year and lets be done with it. NO more restructuring, however. Fix the secondary in the draft and sign a pass rusher in FA next year.

Well we can use that 14 million for Martin and whatever we don't use we just push over to next year. Regardless cap looking good next year
