In 1971, Roger Staubach set team records for passer rating and yards per attempt that still stand 35 years later. That year, Staubach's rating was 104.8 and his yards per attempt was 8.92

In 1993, Troy Aikman completed 69.1% of his passes to set a new team record for a season.

Besides being two seasons that the Cowboys won the Super Bowl, what else do 1971 and 1993 have in common? With six games to play, the records set in both those years are being seriously threatened.

Tony Romo currently leads the NFL in yards per attempt at 8.94, has a rating of 100.0, and has completed 68.2% of his passes.

Romo's chances at getting at least one of those records look extremely good, for the following reasons:

His completion percentage is going up with every game.

The average ranking of the Cowboys' last six opponents in defensive passer rating is 20th, including games against teams with pass defenses ranked 27th, 28th, and 31st in defensive passer rating.

Terry Glenn and Julius Jones are getting involved.
