Every day, it seems that someone from the Cowboys is saying something to increase expectations for the 2013 season.
Last week, executive V.P. Stephen Jones said the team had the “secret sauce” to succeed. Now, quarterback Tony Romo declares that he has found “something special” in his throwing motion.
“I don’t want to get into all the details of it,” Romo recently told FOXSportsSouthwest.com. ”But I really think it can be a positive change.”

This is one of those Romo-things that he gets excited about, but that we don't ever really get to see evidence of on the field. By that I mean, it'll have an effect, but we fans won't be able to measure it. I love that the guy works on these details, though, and I think it's cool that it matters to him enough that he clearly gets excited about the annual improvements to his game. Thanks for posting.

I agree. I've done that myself in various sports over the years where you make a change and see an immediate improvement in practice, but the last thing you want to do is tell anyone about it until there are tangible results from the change. So many times you hear someone say they made an adjustment which "fixed" whatever was broken only to see them do the same-old-thing when they play again.

Like you, I'm happy that Romo is excited about the change and, if anything, it gives him the basis for new optimism, but it also wears on you as a fan to hear this at least 1-2 times per year. The best thing to do in a situation like that is make the change, see how it goes and if it works and you are asked about what you are doing differently, THEN you tell the media about it.

How is Romo working on his throwing mechanics anything like the sauce comment?

The thing that excites about this is Tony is usually not one for hype. If he said it, it's for a reason.

Look at where he places his index finger on the ball. It's closer to the end of the ball than ever before. I think that is the new thing. Terry Bradshaw used to place his index finger on the tip of the football. Romo's doing something similar.

I hope it works out better than when he tried to emulate Tom Brady.

I like to hear this. I think Romo's mechanics are something that's kind of overlooked. And his ball placement in very underrated (like that pass he threw to Dez in Arizona a couple weeks ago with Patrick Peterson draped all over him).

It is outstanding to hear your biggest star come out and recognize that he needs to work on different things despite how many years he has under his belt...hopefully that type of work ethic rubs off on the rest of the team

I always thought Romo had a great throwing motion and an excellent release.

Romo picks 1-2 things to work on each off season. He comes of as non-chalant at times, but he does really care about winning.

It's been a fun last few days in surprising revelations involving prominent members of the Dallas Cowboys.

First, there was team executive Stephen Jones talking about the Cowboys' "secret sauce." Then, there was Jerry Jones dishing on his potential Benjamin Button brain.

Now we have Tony Romo, who told Fox Sports Southwest he's "discovered something that is going to be really special" with a change in his throwing mechanics.
"I don't want to get into all the details of it," Romo said. "But I really think it can be a positive change."
