Romo lacks arm strength

I'm not saying he can't play. He can. I honestly wonder if he will ever be a great one. I just don't see the arm strength. To me that was one of the major differences between Roger and Danny White. Danny always threw those medicine balls (the kind that put your WR in the hospital). Danny could play, was a very good QB, but his lack of arm strength hurt us at times.

I like Romo's mobility. But I get tired of seeing balls floated everywhere.

Just my opinion.

Close thread. Knee jerk reaction, he has plenty of arm strength for our offense.

Jeff Garcia lacks arm strength too, and he did pretty well today.

Want to talk about knee jerk, read the entire post. I said he could play. But don't keep talking him up to be a great one, because I'm not sure he will be, and whether you like to hear it or not, it's true, he doesn't have a big arm.

And Bledsoe had all the arm strength you could ever want in a QB.
I do agree he tends to float them but that reminds me of what Favre used to do.I think he just needs more playing time and will know when to throw hard and when to float them.

I will ask you again...

The drops are his fault?

Favre still floats throws at times. The difference is that Favre could also put it on a rope into tight spots.

Romo can do that ON THE RUN TO THE SIDES, or DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD.

But when he has to stand in the pocket and deliver deep sidelines, he struggles.

You're right I'm wrong, forum debates are pointless. He has all the intangibles, including arm strength.

Of course not. I wasn't commenting on the WR's. If you would like I could offer an opinion on that too.

How about getting Owens involved in the offense earlier? That would have been a good idea.

The same thing goes for Terry Glenn.

Yes there were drops. Didn't help Romo at all.

But how about the pick with the safety coming from over the top? Did Parcells go after Owens on that? No, he went to Romo and said "over the top". i.e., "you were to check the safety.

And the other pick was air mailed, a floater.

But again, Romo has played very well this year, that is why he is going to the Pro Bowl. I'm not saying he can't play. I'm saying I get tired of seeing him float so many.

My bad, your right. He throws that 20 yard sideline route the way Roger and Troy did. Man, my eyes are getting bad.

I just don't see it. You didn't see the cannon shot for a TD he threw to TO last week?

So he can drop balls in the 1st quarter as well? He has 2 catches and 2 drops... great %.

How about we throw slants to TO since he is GREAT at YAC. Instead lets have TO run a pattern down that sideline which he obviously cant run. How many times did Madden say "TO needs to leave more room on the sideline so a throw can be made?" Everyone sees these things except our staff. Get TO over the middle where he is dangerous. TG should be streaking down sidelines. Why not throw it to TO in the redzone when its man coverage and there is ZERO safety help... Oh yah, we elected to run a sweep.

I watched the game last week. Just like all of you, I watch the game every week.

I haven't seen cannon shots. I've seen good throws. But if you see the arm strength that Staubach and Aikman had, then we are seeing different things.

Like I said, I believe he can play. And like someone already noted. Montana didn't have great arm strength either.

But I didn't see Montana throwing with his feet in terrible position over and over again either.

Romo has good mobility (the play he made early in the game being dragged down was unreal), but he is moving a thousand different directions, like Favre does, but he doesn't have Favre's arm. The result is that he floats a lot of throws. That is fine underneath, but it can be deadly on longer throws.

I'm with you 100% on how they use T.O. It is just plain stupid. I also agree that he will drop his share of balls, but I promise you he will drop more if they throw to him sparingly.

The guy is probably the best overall offensive weapon we have and we don't even look his direction for most of the first half.

Where are the slants, where are the short crossing routes?

A complete misuse of his talents.

That is coaching.

It is making Romo look bad.

We know he can throw the ball so why not throw to our weapons while they are at their strengths.

Enough tho. There are plenty of anti-coaching threads right now.

I agree with you. And again, to be clear, I'm not saying Romo can't play, he can. But we have to play to his strengths, and this game plan didn't do that.

Hmm. Arm strength didn't stop Montana from being great and arm strength didn't help Jeff George much. Arm strength is overrated when it comes to playing QB in the NFL.
