Tony Romo: Assumes Starting Role

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Update: Quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer informed Drew Bledsoe that he would be the backup after Monday's game, which would leave Romo as the starter, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Recommendation: Bledsoe's immobility and the Cowboys' porous offensive line simply didn't mix this season, leaving coach Bill Parcells with no other choice but to turn to the younger Romo.

Anyone can confirm this?

Once Bledsoe was removed, I would seriously doubt him ever being named starter for us again. This was not a knee jerk react by Parcells. I am sure Jerry and Bill have been talking about it for a while.

I just want Romo to get the first half at the Panthers game. If you think about it, he threw for 227 yards and 2 Td's in one half.

It looks exactly like a knee jerk reaction. A QB change at half time when your within 1 TD of the lead is a knee jerk reaction, unless the QB is injured.

Then why wouldn't Parcells just say that it was a permanent move after the game?

You also have to think about the fact that he was a little lucky to only have 3 interceptions in 1 half.

When your starter has already blown two important games with numerous interceptions, its not a knee jerk reaction when you witness him proceeding to blow a third one.

Yes. Its a QB who the best thing you could say about him is, well at least we don't know what he has, is a knee jerk reaction.

This is the best thing that could happen for us at this point. Either Romo becomes the guy we all hope he will be and performs that way and we get to the playoffs, or at least proves he CAN be the guy. Or he stinks it up and we know what we need to do in the draft.

Either way, right now we are beating the bad teams and losing to the good teams which means we are not either. We are mediocre. And that is not what we want to be.

I don't see why more people aren't paying attention to this fact. Romo's in his fourth year in the league now -- he doesn't have THAT much room for improvement. Ever since he's been with the team, reports have been that he's way too impulsive. You can figure out in practice not to make some of the throws Romo made. It doesn't have anything to do with starting experience. Romo may very well be what we saw last night and nothing more.

keep in mind about 120 of that was in the 4th quarter down by 21 points.

These next few games are going to be ugly. The romo fantatics have killed our season.

When your starter is deliberately not throwing the plays as they are called and getting picked in the endzone, the unknows starts to look a lot more attractive then the known.

And again, there is no doubt in my mind it was not a spot decision. Bill came into this game based on Bledsoe's play all year thinking that if Drew struggled he was going to make the switch. The INT just caused him to pull the trigger, IMO. That's not knee-jerk.

ESPN reported that Parcells asked Romo several times before the game if he was ready to play. If that's true, then Parcells was close to making the change even before the game.

This has definitely been in Parcells' mind for a while and is definitely not a knee-jerk reaction.

You figure out in high school that you shouldn't throw passes over three wide bodies consistently.

Though at this point I think we should just go with Romo and go for the high pick that we are likely to get.

You are exactly right. We dont know what we have. It may not work, but in the middle of an NFC East game on monday night was the absolute worst time to find out.

Bledsoe killed our season.

If he even played as well as he did the first half of last season we are probably 5-1 or at least 4-2. We certainly wouldn't be marching a de facto rookie QB out there the rest of the year.

There is only one place to point the finger here.
