Romo needs to work on deep ball

If its true that we have TO or another WR open deep a few times during the NE game and Romo chose to "check down"... then THAT right there changed the complexion of the game.

Instead of being down 14-0 we could have had some points. I dont even care if they are quick scores and we lose Time of possession.. atleast we have points.

Anyone have any thoughts on Romo's reluctance to throw deep?

I agree. They aren't attacking DEEP like they could. They seem to be attacking the short and mid parts of the field. Thirty yards and less. I want to see some deep routes. (and I don't want Romo to float them like he was floating everything in the Bills games)

While he's at it how about he runs occasionally, it seems like he is hesitating on some of those, some of our best plays were his run, remember the scramble for a td...

The reluctance to throw deep has more to do with WRs not getting open often enough and dropping the ball. I think he wants to throw deep but in many cases options aren't there.

Bottom line is WRs should make plays to give confidence to Romo that they can get open and that they can catch the ball whenever the ball is thrown at them.

I don't think he's hesitant at all to throw deep. His yards per completion and yards per attempt are extremely high and that's because we're aggressive and he's the reason for that. He's not afraid to throw it down the field. Just because he actually looked for a couple of checkdowns early in the game until he could get a feel for what he was seeing against the Patriots, notorious for confusing a QB, I see nothing wrong with that.

Oh and TO always thinks he's open.

Drops are gonna happen.

So.... what? because of them we change the game plan?

OR

keep at it until we get it right.... in sync.

I choose the latter.

Ok, you be happy with drops and not making plays and I'll be happy with any positive yards gained and moving the chains.

With you, TO can't do anything wrong and all you do is find excuses for him. For me, it takes two to make a passing play successful and if one player doesn't do his job, then it is time to look for another option.

You may choose the later buy your not the one throwing the ball and responsible if NE is playing the cover 3 but showing cover 2. I bet as soon as Terry Glenn returns the deep balls magically return to the game plan.

Romo throws downfield more than any other quarterback in the league.

Screw chucking it deep. Do you know how many times Tom Brady has thrown the ball more than 30 yards in the air this year?

5 times.

That's it. We don't need to do it any more, we just need to do it better. Romo's splits on throws over 20 yards are bad - real bad

But downfield isn't 50 yard bombs. We want bombs and flea flickers!

Why would Romo have a reluctance to throw deep? It doesn't show in his stats that he does or while watching him play. Maybe he did not think the receivers were actually open or did not see them open. He isn't perfect and may have come off his reads too quick to check down. That is not too bad of a problem. It is better than waiting too long to check down and then taking a sack like Bledsoe would do. Romo is still learning and if there is a re-match with the Pats will be more aware of what to look for against them.

I think he's probably referring to fly patterns, 45 yards downfield.

No I would not. I just want this offense running the way it can. Playing like this we can be contained to easy... especially in begining of games...

Well, all I can say is that you either dont read alot of my posts concerning TO or you dont to see where I post and hold him accountable.

I am a TO homer.... but not even TO gets a pass with me. I dont make excuses for TO. I would like to see more plays like the ones he has had great success with in the past.

If a WR is great at catching slants and RAC
OR
If a WR is great with the ball in his hands in space.... then use him to his strengths.

If a WR is not that good at catching passes on crossing patterns... then why continue to do that?

I didnt say downfield. I said deep ball as in down the right or left sidelines = SCORE

or

down the middle of the field when WR gets behind the defense..... its working or being tried against us.....

I ask, WHY NOT US!??!??!

Sorry. Just looked at your join date. Joke before your time.

Huge discussion w/much ownage regarding whether Galloway ran 30-yard slants.

He threw alot down field last year with TG in the line up. We need TG back soon. He has the speed and the hands for long passes. Maybe Romo doesn't have the same confidence with the other WRs.
