Did he give a reason for not attempting to qualify?

I don't have any issue with him doing it, just curious.

I like what i see hopefully this means hes training hard and the rest of the team as well

IRVING, Texas – Tony Romo will not attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open after all.

Romo said he has elected to skip the May 14 local qualifier at Old American Golf Club in The Colony.

According to the USGA’s Web site, Romo was listed in the upcoming field, but the quarterback said the application to play in the event was not made by him.

I'm sure with a baby in the house much of the free time he would have in the off season will vanish.

Dude!

if Skip Bayless doesn't apologize to Romo on air tomorrow, that's seriously weak. He went off on him this morning.

I think he realizes, after playing with Tiger at Pebble Beach, he isn't in their league with respect to golf skills. Plus, he won't have the time to devote to golf given his new family responsibilities, and oh yes, there's that football thing.

I don't think it has anything to do with other golfers' skills. I seriously doubt he thinks he could win it. The thing is, the US Open is, in fact, just that, OPEN. Anyone can qualify for it, and it is one of the toughest tournaments of the year. I play golf on a regular basis, and if I could qualify for the US Open, I would be absolutely thrilled. It's like running a marathon. That's a pretty big accomplishment even if you don't win. Same thing with the US Open. To say you even qualified for it is pretty amazing, especially for an amateur/non-professional.

Agree, I plan on watching him play in Tahoe this year and do a little gambling on the side :)

In a perfect world, YES, it should go that way. But our man, Skip? ... he'll probably just figure that it was his "going off" on Romo that was the driving impetus behind Tony's decision NOT to try to qualify for the US Open, and be smug about it. Good ole Skippy [gag].

I'm sure with his new baby Romo hasn't been working enough on his game to have real shot at qualifying for the US Open.

On a side note, he made this announcement with his hat on forward.
