There are specific plays which lurk in my memory. Something about them was either so traumatic or sublime they find a home somewhere in my brain. Harper's Slant to save the NFCC game. The next year when he spun in the air on a deep slant and took the ball on the back side to stick the knife in the 9ers again.
Irvin against the Chiefs, juggling the ball in the endzone and clinching it in time. Every run or catch in the Emmitt separated shoulder game against the Giants. Even Larry Cole blowing up the counter trey to get Roger the ball one last time for the comeback.
I think this Colts game will remain in my memory banks just for the throw and catch by two guys who must be telepathic.
Romo to Witten. Like peas and carrots. Or Tinker to Evers to Chance.
The backside camera angle revealed something about that play that caught my attention. Romo was looking right and came back to Witten as the pocket tightened around him. What Romo saw in a fraction of a second was Witten disappear behind the linebacker, who had his back to Romo. Romo threw the ball to a spot for Witten to go get it.
But what was amazing is I don't believe Witten saw Romo throw the ball. The linebacker reached up in hopes of blocking the ball if it were coming. And it flew right past his hand.
Witten snagged that out of the air as if they drew it up that way.
But what makes this even more terrific is in the Seattle Arizona game, Wilson had his TE running the same route, and Wilson threw the ball over the head of the linebacker. ESPN and NFLN both got chills over that pass play. They drooled. They rejoiced. They acted like this was Hall of Fame stuff.
And yet it was pretty routine compared to Romo and Witten with blindfolds on, throwing to a spot Romo assumed Witten would be when the ball arrived, and making it look easy.
The pass Romo threw was in a window of opportunity so slender, it was either going to miss completely or be knocked down.
Romo put it on a dime. The dime was in Witten's hands.

I've told you guys in the past I am truly an emotional fan and not this doom and gloom guy you seem to think I am. I just need to see with my own eyes this is not a mirage. So here's the deal. I said last week after the Bears had their collective butts handed to them by Dallas, this team needs to win six straight.
The Colts are one.
Dallas needs to beat the Commanders. I don't much care if it has nothing to do with the outcome of the season now. It is all about continuity.
GB here will be tough. But they have to stop an offense as prolific as theirs. Perhaps more difficult since Dallas controls the clock.
Not sure how it will work, but it occurs to me the next opponent would be the Lions. That game scares me, frankly. More than GB.
Dallas will beat Seattle at home or away. They can't handle Murray and Dez.
I think I'd love for this team, healthy and firing on all cylinders to end up facing Brady and the Pats. I don't give a rat's butt how good they have looked, I think Romo out guns Brady.
To me this all hinges on how well Dallas can play against GB and then Det. If they get to the NFCC game they will win it all.
Romo is the best quarterback in the league this year. And a healthy line, Murray, Dez, Witten, Butterfly and TWill can score lots of points on anyone and control the clock. Now toss in the 15 Minutes of Fame defense that pulls games out of their butts, and this team may be the team this year.
However, having said all of that, wouldn't it be nice to beat Manning and Denver? While I appreciate Ware, I think that would be fitting for him to see his old team hoist the Lombardi.
