I don't have a problem with these types of plays.

It's the chunking it up at the end of halftime to Ed Reed type plays and then being cavalier about the interception saying it was like a punt that bother me.

Against a team that has a conservative offense with a rookie QB and good defense that plays to win close games, some thought needs to be given to the overall strategy as he takes the field. These are situational decisions that he should be thinking about before he gets under center.

just my humble arm chair opinion

Laufenberg made a point to say that you could see Romo's development in that he tucked the ball before throwing. He said that in years past, Romo dangles that ball out there and risks a fumble. He instead tucked it, and only threw at the last second when he realized there was a play to be had.

Beat me to it.

CowboyWay, I hope you read this.

I agree with both you and CW.

The play had been going on for FAR too long. he had already tucked the ball and in my mind you need to take the sure-thing 3-points. In my mind, it's more important to get sure points early in the game than it is to take risks.

Late in the game, if we're behind and need points? Sure, take a gamble and make the throw. Just don't do it when you don't need to.

It tells me that he hasn't matured one bit. There were too many bodies and movement behind/around him to be certain that somebody wasn't about to clobber him. Add to it that the throw was not the easiest and you have too much risk for the 4-point reward.
Perhaps he knew that the first-team offense would not be on the field the next series and decided to go for it? It is the preseason folks.

Yep...i have to admit though, it was kind of a dangerous throw. If one of the DBs had jumped it, woulda gone the other way.

I rewatched that play over and over and there was no way that DB could get that ball. The DB was behind Witten gunning in the direction of Wittens back right shoulder, while the ball is thrown right to witten ever so slightly towards Witten's left side but still front into Witten's stomach area. Perfect angle and could not be placed in a better area. Witten was the only one, short of flubbering the catch which Romo knows Witten does not do, who could catch that.

The moment Tony starts second-guessing a split-second pass like that...there's a greater issue. That would mean he doesn't trust himself or his target.

This.

Why is so hard to understand?

My point was that he should never have gotten to that point. He should have given up on the play by then.

not buying that at all, it is Romo's game and is what seperates him from most others is his ability to make something happen out of nothing.

Brett Favre was just like that, do you tell Brett the same?

Let me see if I got this right: Our quarterback spots his tight end open at the last second and whips the ball to him for a touchdown and people are unhappy about it? (Not you, I understand sarcasm when I sees it.)

I see now that there is no hope for everyone ever being satisfied with anything Romo does. We should be happy that he tucked the ball to secure it when no one was open, and we should be equally happy that when he saw an opportunity to score he seized it in a way many other QBs in this league can't, getting the ball up and out quickly and throwing it accurately while on the move.

Where is Bernie Kosar? Can he still throw?

These words make me want to puke.. Dude, never ever coach kids and stay away from giving any football advice. I can't believe you said that. Geez!!!!:bang2: You give up on a play when the play is over. Obviously the play wasn't over, so he threw a TD to Witten. What's the problem?

That play was a safe veteran throw. As was said, Witten set-up the DB, boxed him in and Romo threw to a spot. The part that does worry me is when Romo does his pump fakes over and over again. That is when he leaves the ball vulnerable.

On a side note, Romo seems to have worked on his play fakes. They look smoother and quicker.
