You have to go back to back to week 12 to see a game where Romo had a less than 95.2 QB rating after playing a full game. In the three previous games to his sub 95.2 game, he had 112 QB rating or higher in each of THOSE games...

Nearly HALF of those games were WITHOUT DeMarco Murray. Quite a few of them were WITHOUT Miles Austin.

I think Romo's aura had a shine put on it by the Giants' game. There were a lot of non Dallas fans watching the first game of the season, and he put on a show.

I have heard/seen that opinion more than a few times here on Cowboys Zone and elsewhere and I disagree.

You don't throw for 70% plus completion percentage twice in your career and not be a truly exceptional QB.

Bree's yards don't mean much to me in the say way Stafford's yards don't mean much to me. Bree's completion percentage falls into the that's ungodly category in my mind.

I think the best two QBs are clearly Brady and Rodgers. Old Payton Manning belonged here, too.

I think tier two is basically Romo and Brees. If Eli can repeat his 2011 season then he might join this group.

The next group is Eli, Pig Pen, Rivers. These are all guys who are very good and have accomplished quite a bit over their careers but just are not quite consistenly as good.

Then the next tier is your other above average QBs who haven't yet shown they belong in higher tiers like Matt Ryan, Schaub, Vick, Stafford and Flacco. Stafford will jump a level if he can repeat his last season.

This is IMO a golden era of QBs we are witnessing. The sophistication of the offenses and the precision with which they throw the ball has entered another zone compared to the game I remember in the 80s and 90s. There are just so many really good ones now compared to back then. If you want to win in the NFL you need a good QB or you need to be good everywhere else (running, defense, special teams). If you lack a good QB or QB prospect you have to pay whatever price is necessary to get into position to draft one. That is why the Skins paid through the nose for RGIII and why the Colts wouldn't consider any offers for Luck.

Just thank your lucky stars that we got Romo. I was so happy to hear that he wants to play 6 more years as it gives us plenty of chance to build an elite team around him and win some Super Bowls before he retires. I actually think we have a good chance this year as last year's fatal flaws look to be remarkably improved thus far. If we can block the Giants well enough to put up 450 yards of offense with all their pass rushers healthy and playing then we're probably good enough upfront to play against anyone now. Likewise, we were able to defend against Eli and his WRs suggests our secondary is now good enough to compete against anyone out there.

The media and rest of the NFL will only buy into Romo being an elite QB when he wins a few more playoff games or a SB ring. When that happens, they will restudy his stats and finally realize & accept he is an elite.

I love Romo, he's my favorite player & I definitely consider him an elite QB but some of these comments are getting ridiculous. Rodgers, Brady & Brees are ALL clearly better players. They are arguably the three BEST players in the NFL. They are not just elite QBs, they are HOFers re-writing history.

Non sense. Brees has the best offensive line in football and it's not even close. Sure he has better numbers, but he throws a hell of a lot more. No way he would be as successful in Dallas.

Again Brees has a far better offensive line and throw far more. He should have better numbers.

I agree that Brees / Brady / Rodgers are clearly in a class all by themselves.

What I wonder, however, if the incredibly freaky passing stats these guys (and others) are putting up are primarily due to all the rules changes that have forced a heavy emphasis on passing.

I have little doubt that had Favre, Warner, Marino, Fouts, Moon, and even others great passers of yesteryear were playing today, that they also would be passing for 5000 yards and 40 TDs.

For me, Stafford throwing for 5000 yards and 40+ TDs as well as Eli basically throwing for 5000 yards solidified for me that its impossible to compare passers today statistically to guys in the past. It's like they are playing a whole other game today with the rules changes.
