Romo's contract and offsetting cap relief

I completely disagree. If the Cowboys opened up shop for Tony, there would likely be teams trying to get him. Even at his current pay.

They won't open up shop cause the cap hit for Romo's SB and restructures would be prohibitive this year. Jerry might do it
sometime next year but, when does Jerry trade his star players? huh?

Herschell Walker says hello.

And, how many years ago was that and I think Jimmy orchestrated that trade didn't he. Yes,
Jerry had to sign off but, that was long, long ago and far, far away.

Don't be surprised if some teams come up to the plate and offer something in trade for Romo: Jets, Dolphins, Bears ... are possible playoff teams with a good QB. You never know ... a 2nd day draft pick would be nice.
sorry, but no team in their right mind is going to trade for a 36 year old QB who has gotten injured so much in the way that Romo has, not with the money he is making. This is not a hate on Romo, believe me, just the hard truth. The most we can hope for honestly is maybe him backing up Dak but we are not about to have one of the highest paid players in the league sitting on the bench either aside from the humility it would take to do such a thing considering......

He will for all accounts likely be cut after june 1st which then would release him from his contract and allow other teams to sign him on the cheap

only team that might be interested in Romo right now is Denver.

Stephen and Jason would have to convince Jerry to do something like that and I'm far from believing that Jerry would sign off
on trading his adopted son. Nope...Nada...Not going to happen.

If you define "right now" as in "including the offseason" then I think teams like New York (Jets) and Miami might be in line. Both have owners who really want to win but can't get on the right track. Both teams have big question marks at QB. Both have spent irresponsibly on big name talent in the recent past (Revis, Suh). Both are sick and f'ing tired at looking up at New England year after year.

Not this year fellow and not with the remaining SB that goes directly to the cap. Just won't happen this year.
Oh, Jerry doesn't trade his stars or even his backups...sans Leary.

No not this year. In the offseason.

If it happens, that's when it will take place. If Jerry does let Romo go it most likely won't be by trade.
He will make sure Tony gets to pick his new team just like DWare. Jerry loves his star players.

i was not implying the offseason...i was referring at this current time between now and the trade deadline.

Then I think there is close to zero chance that Jerry trades him in that window. Even if he was offered a king's ransom (clearly unlikely), I think Jerry doesn't want to be left hanging in a playoff run with Sanchez as the only option should that one hit happen.

They can't trade Romo cause no team will trade for him. The Cowboys will most likely release
Romo as a June 1st cut next year just like DWare if they decide to do it. Lots of things can
happen before that though. Dak may indeed crash to earth in December when the pressure
cooker starts to heat up.

No team will trade for Romo? Says who?

His wife already wants him to quit. Wait until he goes home and tells her is going to keep playing but is also taking less money for doing it.

Well Romo makes a lot of money. Even at 50% less and to just sit on the bench is still a lot of money.

you are probably right, i was just saying the only team that "might" be interested in a trade for Romo right now would be Denver. unless a 1st place team suffers an injury this weekend....there isnt alot of options out there that we could possibly benefit from.

If I'm Jerry, I would demand two #1's and would only deal with a current bad team likely picking in the top 5 next year. Why in heck would you do a deal with Denver? No realistic deal to be had here...let's move on!

There are so many myths and mistakes regarding Romo's contract since Day 1

It has been always been team friendly his entire career......it is one of the better values in the entire NFL....he can easily be traded and he will a hot commodity if made available

The restructures are SOP and not unique to Tony or DAL...every big time QB has dead money and/or huge cap hits

He is in the third season of his 4yr/68m portion of his deal.......that is 17m a year and all the guarantees are gone after this year

If traded his new team would take on a 3yr/54m deal with ZERO guarantees that could easily be re-worked or dropped at any time.....the dead money doesn't get traded

DAL has 19m in dead money after this year...that was the plan all along and a good one.......that means the team saved 19m in cap space the last 3-4 years when the cap was lower and space was needed..........19m on a 155m cap is much better than 19m on a 123m cap

can he easily be traded as you say before the trade deadline this season?

Can't see Miami moving on from Tannehill for an aging Romo who's one solid hit from possibly being retired, which is what will make trading him difficult. Tannehill hasn't been terrible but he's been sacked 17 times so Romo would have a tough time lasting a couple of games trying to extend plays behind their OL. I can't see the Bears being interested. The Jets are 1-5 and if that record is solely due to their QB situation than Romo would have to carry them.

I don't see where Romo is going to do a bad team much good because he'll have to do too much and will end up injured. He's not durable, one solid hit could land him on IR. The best fit for him would be a contender that has a solid OL and a running game he can lean on. He wouldn't stand a chance on a team where he's having to drop back all day, playing from behind.

Yes...the new team would only take on 4m in salary this year...his salary for 2017 is only 14m

the cap hit for DAL would come next year at 19m but they would save an additional 4m this year that would be carried over....that would reduce his dead money hit to 15m(which is 9m less than his scheduled hit of 24m)

He would then be off the books forever
