I caught this at the tail end of the Romo's Mexico trip overblown article, haven't seen it written anywhere else, and thought it deserved its own thread.

This is great news for Tony and his family.

article said:
Earlier this week, Ramiro found out something even more fulfilling. Diagnosed in September with prostate cancer at the age of 50, Ramiro underwent surgery two months later and waited to hear from doctors what the next course of treatment would be. On Tuesday, he says, "I just got news that I'm cancer free. No radiation, no chemotherapy. It's a blessing."

Now ask yourself this question: What's more distracting to an athlete – a parent battling cancer or a couple of days by the pool with a singer and actress?

Here's how I look at it: The quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys just learned that his dad is going to be OK. Come Sunday, whatever goes down and whoever's passing judgment, the younger Romo will be just fine.

Cancer is a terrible thing. I lost my mother and grandmother to the wicked stuff. I must say, they just didn't detect cancer. You won't actually know for about five years after the fact if the cancer is actually gone. If cancer remains, it will usually flare back up within five years. If it doesn't, you can reasonably say, the cancer is gone.

He and the entire Romo family has my wishes and hopes.

Great news! And I'll tell you something else, knowing my dad was battling cancer would impact me a lot more than knowing my celebrity girlfriend was in the stands. But that's just me...

Very true. I think it will be something that's always there in the back of their minds, but this report at least gives them some relief in the present and near future.

I lost my father to cancer and I bet Romo was affected by his father's health crisis much more than anything with Jessica. For all we know, Jessica might be just what he needs to keep things on an even keel. People think she's a joke, but if he loves the girl (he just might, you know) and now he knows his dad is fine, well, we might just see the Tony Romo of Moxie fame come Sunday. I miss that guy.

It's nice to have things remind us that there are some things more important than football. :D

Amen, and yes this is a lot more believeable explanation for any troubles in Dec. than the media feeding us "Jessica Simpson" 24/7. But I can see where he would not want to publicize this for football purpose's . Either way it was a personal issue.
God Bless him and his family.
