Great play call simply ruined by an even better play (Boley's), or foolish call altogether? I'm not going to question the decision to go for it because we had the Giants on their heels, we needed two scores just to tie the game, and you never know when the Dallas secondary is going to regress again. They also could have called timeout before that play, but chose not to. But Tony is not a big, physical guy, and he rarely sneaks the ball in short yardage situations. And with his hand issue, do you really want him jumping into a pile over the big uglies? I guess Garrett opted for the "element of surprise" and got burned.

Also looked like Witten could have secured the first down (on the previous play) by dipping his shoulder and barreling upfield, but we'll never know.

Terrible play call...Idk if it was Tony or Red who made it, but you have to understand that Giants saw the tape from when it worked for a touchdown last time, and we needed a full yard.

Terrible, terrible play call.

Do you have a pic of the superimposed first down line which NBC displayed before this play? I would not mind comparing where Romo's forward momentum ended.

I didn't like the call either..I hated it, actually.

However, we had the giants pinned, they went 3 and out and we started our next drive on their 26..

This play didn't change the game whatsoever. Not suggesting that you are saying it did, BB, but I see a lot of other people harping on this. IMO, there were much bigger plays that costed us the game.

You don't sneak a 6'2 quarterback.

You'll notice that tall quarterbacks hardly ever get stopped on quarterback sneaks. There's a reason why, and it's pretty obvious.

The best play for the Cowboys on a 4th and 1 would have been either play-action pass or put Romo in the shotgun, have him roll out and either pass the ball or run for the first down.

Maybe it was his hand, but I think the Cowboys underutilize Romo's scrambling abilities.

I agree. We essentially got the ball back. That wasn't the worst play of the game. It took time off the clock, but that really didn't matter since we couldn't consistently stop the Giants on defense anyway.

The offense really wasn't the problem. It was the defense.

We needed to score a TD so I have no problem with the call, especially since the Giants were in a 4 man front if I recall. Boley made a good play but our line got no push once again.

Well, if he got stopped 1 foot short, I don't think an inch or three would have helped. :D

I was not a fan of the play call either, but it was a crazy-good play by Boley.

They spotted it correctly. He didn't make it.

Seemed a bit long for that play call to me. That's usually an "X and inches" call rather than a full yard to go.

He could have done that a couple of times last night but instead tried to rely on his "elusiveness."

That's kind of my problem with the call though. The interior OL is only slightly behind the secondary as far as being the weakest part of the team, and that call puts the game essentially in their hands against the strength of the Giants D.

As other have said, it wasn't a big deal in the end, but I hated the call. Especially for a full yard.

I didn't have a problem with the play and I especially liked that we rushed the snap-count for a change instead of letting the defense get prepared. It was just poorly blocked by the O-Line (allowed Canty to fill the gap) and a great play by Boley coming over the top.

Sometimes the right play can still be foiled by a better defense and/or lack of execution by all players on the offense.

Romo's height/size had nothing to do with the failure of the play.

That's what I thought as well. Would have preferred to bring in Fiammetta, Witten, and Bennett, and then let them pave the way for Morris.

Boley made a great play. It wouldn' have been my first choice as a call, but the OL had no push at all.

I hate to be beating a dead horse, but Decastro would have mauled Canty.

True, it didn't bite us in the ***. I'm just questioning the use of Romo in that situation.

Looking again at how far it had to go, yeah, that's a remarkably stupid play call. Your front guys have to really move the LOS a great deal to win that battle. You can't expect your QB to slip and find a hole like a back. I think you definitely go for it there, but not a QB sneak.

You don't see a full yard from that pic above your post ?

Yes, it was a full yard to go, which is why it was a bad play call.
