What does "Romo friendly" mean? Is there any substance to Jerry's spin?

At first, I said no... just an excuse to get rid of TO.

BUT... I was watching some NFL playbook and started to think about a lot of great QBs who make receivers, rather than the other way around.

For instance,
Tom Brady carried scrubs to multiple SBs (Branch was their best, enough said).

Brett Farve always seemed to make a new guy into a good receiver (Javon Walker, Donald Driver, even Jennings, Bubba Franks, so many I can't name 'em all. All guys without a ton of natural talent, not legit #1s except Jennings now, not then).

Drew Brees makes stars out of Lance Moore, Marques Colston. It just seems like it doesn't matter to him, as long as the guy goes where he supposed to.

And I think that's the point. T.O. couldn't be counted on to go where he's supposed to. Remember all the times Romo would have to break huddle and then whisper to TO what he just said? Or the bad routes? Or the dropped balls? But always the demanding the ball... even when the read says go elsewhere.

Now, we have guys who Romo trusts. He grew up with Hurd and Austin. He loves Witten. He knows Barber. He seems like he's learning Roy. And Roy may not be spectacular, but he's a smarter and less roller-coaster a player than TO. And he doesn't kill drives with showboating or dropped passes or failing to knock down a jumpball.

Great QBs take what teams give them, spreading the ball around, and just hitting guys with good matchups. Romo can do this. I've seen it. If he buys into it, he could be great.

Kinda seems like Jerry's not just puffing smoke here. I think he may have just gone all-in on Romo's development.

You make a good case. I think the Bennett/Jones angle is also going to produce a lot of points, or at least lead to a lot of points. Bennett in the red zone: automatic 6

Very good points, many people, including myself to a degree, never thought of it that way.

Personally I think Roy is spectacular but just like the rest of your sentence, we don't really know that he's "smarter" or "less roller-coaster a player" than T.O..
After 2009 we should know what we have though.

I love how I can put together a long post based on a serious change in thinking.

And DaBoys can (and inevitably will) just say "Bull" and call it an argument

I think we do know he is smarter. A few different former coaches have said that about him. NO ONE has said that about TO. And we know he has better hands, so that is less roller-coaster right there

I think you're on to something: It's called "chemistry". For example, Romo made a name out of Patrick Crayton due to their chemistry.

I have put more people on my ignore list this past year then ever before and I have decided after reading this guy's posts lately that he just made the list. He is anything but a Cowboys fan IMO and I don't care to read anything he has to say. So goodbye DaBoys4Life...

You can go one step farther and add McNabb to this also. Who has he ever had at wideout, other then TO one year? Baskett, Stevens, Avant, insert name here. Yeah we hate em'...but he has gone to a lot of NFC title games. That just goes to show you that you don't need elite WR's at every position...you need chemistry...and people who want to play for each other!
