As no doubt many of you know, Romo in the past has worn a lightweight kevlar vest to keep himself safe and secure when playing with injury (mainly broken ribs and a punctured lung). I am trying to figure out if there is any reason he shouldn't just wear it the rest of his career. I mean it probably slightly dampers movement (though it is designed to be flexible) and it probably isn't the lightest thing in the world (though it is designed to be lightweight) but we need Romo to be there, and I think it is safe to say he now has a history of a bad back, does it really matter if he loses a bit of his mobility?

P.S. Here is a guy getting beat wearing the vest http://www.wfaa.com/story/sports/nfl/cowboys/2014/08/14/13788366/ something tells me if it could stop a shovel it could stop a knee.

I wear a similar vest in the military, and it does help with protection... but the amount of mobility it takes away can not be overstated. It will be noticeable, ppl would complain saying he look old and washed up.

I work for Dupont, we are the sole manufacturer of Kevlar. It's actually pretty amazing the protection it gives for being so lightweight. He should definitely wear it. The people spinning this stuff are the best group of folks in the world to work with.

he's been wearing some form of protective vest for years now.

Yes, I think he was already wearing some type of protective vest.

As a former member of the military, I can confirm that the Kevlar vest that Romo wears is nothing like the one they gave our military to wear. It's custom designed to fit him and more importantly, it allows way more mobility than the one our military brethren wear. I believe in addition to Romo's Kevlar vest, he wears padded rib protection too.

I think the problem is he needs something that ties into the belting or waist of the pants or some high waisted compression shorts with padding because all the vest and rib protectors slide up when the player leans forward, leaving the lower back and side exposed to knees. I think that is the same thing that happened to Cam Newton, he was wearing rib protection but it rode up and he got hit underneath it. If you look on Romo's sack, his pads rode up and his back was exposed when he crouched forward.
