Romo's market value

Clearly, Romo is an asset to this team .... He's a talented player at a very highly valued position. He's not the reason the team lost (before his injury) and the team is losing even worse now that he's not able to play.

Still, no one is absolutely untouchable. It all depends on what you are offered.

So, two questions:

1. How much do you think the Cowboys could get for Tony Romo in the open market? (I'm talking draft choices. What might he be worth?)

2. What would you have to be offered in order to trade Romo? (To make it an acceptable deal from the Cowboys perspective).

(Note: Farve IS at the end and for the next several years the Vikings may only be a Romo away. Herschel Part 2? :) )

There is no logical price. He is almost everything to this team. The bottom line is you don't trade one of the top QBs in the league who just entered his prime...ever. Even if we got two 1sts, they likely wouldn't amount to much if anything and we lost the guy that makes this team go.

Romo is ......

Probably a 1 and a 3 or so.

First, Romo is not going anywhere.

That being said, thats the same that we spent on Roy... So it should be more than that for an elite Qb. Or top ten if you dont like him.

I guess two first should be.

There's no market to make a deal on this. He's more valuable to us than any possible package of picks and no team would offer more than a couple #2 picks at his age and with his style of play.

This is the horse we ride for the next 3-5 years, folks, for better or worse.

If we're out trying to get rid of him than the most we could get is a 2nd.
if we're lucky.

You want teams coming to you if you want value.

Im not sure Romo is the answer at QB, that being said you don' trade him because 1) He is your franchise QB and you have cast your lots with him and 2) you will never actually recieve what he is worth in a trade (which IMO is probably 3-4 first round picks with annother three 3rd and 4th round picks thrown in.

No we could get a 1st. And maybe another decent pick.

Two firsts at a minimum for him.

Better yet, let's just keep him and build a half decent OL.

This is the dumbest thing I've read here since I read the "trade ware" thread a few minutes ago.

This. Superstar franchise QBs aren't just worth their skill. Their worth the butts they put in seats. A Tony Romo is worth at least two 1sts or a 1st and another great player.

i am also not convinced Romo is the answer. Lets not forget...this team was a mess before Romo injury. I still see too many easy turnovers from Romo. I would rather have a guy who might not put up the gaudy stats but isnt turnover prone. I would look at trading Romo to Cardinals. They have good receivers, decent offensive line and decent defense...they are probably only a Tony Romo away from being a major threat. I would dangle Romo to Cards for a 1st and 3rd and settle on 1st and 4th. Then package your draft picks to get the number 1 qb coming out of college and try to make some sense of this mess of a team.

Sorry, but didn't you know that you are not allowed to post something like this? I did the same post mentioning D. Ware and everybody went ballistic. According to most, it's such a ridiculously stooopid idea to trade away the top guys on a terrible football team in an effort to genrate even more young talent.

The message is simple my friend - we should keep what we have and trust Jerry and Co. to use our high draft picks in 2011 on some Jerry-defined top talent and blend those guys in with our current core of underacheiving "top" talent.

Quit putting Romo among the elite. Last night we saw an elite qb. Rodgers is in the top 5 right now. Peyton elite. Brady elite. Brees elite. Rivers elite.

Romo not elite. Sorry to break it to you. Number crunch all you want, but he does not belong amongst those mentioned. Romo is a very good qb, but elite is reserved for those special qbs.

I actually think this is as good as romo will ever get Yet people still get stuck on his numbers. Well yeah, do we even run the ball?

He is one of those special QBs and the fact this team doesn't even try without him proves that. We now also know what he's been covering for all these years.

Then maybe it's time for you to go back to Madden pretend time.

Quarterbacks who are 31 and coming off IR aren't exactly the hottest commodity on the market. These trades just don't happen.

The Cutler and Cassel trades happened because of the tread left on the tires. A much younger Matt Schaub yielded Atlanta two #2 picks. McNabb netted a single #2 and some change.

I'm a big Tony Romo fan, but if you asked for an NFL GM for a #1 and #2, you just wouldn't get it. I don't see what's so unrealistic about saying Romo's value to other teams would be a pair of #2 picks and some change.

That would never be worth it to us.

We aren't shopping him though. Stupid fans don't run the team.

Exactly if you came to us and wanted Romo than you'd have to give up a 1 & 2 at least.

Then we would have no choice but to try and tank the year so we could grab Luck or Mallett.
