Per ESPN, Romo's passer rating today 148.4...can someone explain to me what Tony did wrong such that his passer rating wasn't perfect? It's like 158 and change for "perfection", yeah? Do 3 incompletions factor in that much? Thx:confused:

He was caught laughing on the sidelines, so the statisticians took away the 4.9 points necessary to achieve passer perfection.

Someone in another thread said it was touchdowns per attempt or something like that.

You have to achieve benchmarks in four categories to get a perfect rating. Romo achieved only two of the four benchmarks.

Completion percentage: 77.5. Romo's was 88.46.
Interception percentage: 0.0. Romo's was 0.0.

Yards per attempt: 12.50. Romo's was only 10.38.
Touchdown percentage: 11.875. Romo's was only 11.540.

Somewhat unrelated to the original post, but unless I'm looking at things wrong, it looks like Romo is the fourth-highest-rated QB in the league now at 97.7.

Of course, he hasn't faced any good defenses, hasn't played in any important games, etc.

It is hard for most of the forum to accept but our players are human and will make mistakes unlike all the other teams in the league whose players never make a mistake.

Romo is one of the best QBs in the league.

He is arguably the most entertaining QB in the league.

It is a shame our fanbase doesn't appreciate him more or for some members at all.

Fixed it for you. I think there are only a relatively few but vocal fans who don't appreciate him. They have very short memories of the QB hell we were in between Aikman and Romo.

No, I meant what I said. Almost all of our fans underappreciate the guy and then there are those who flat out hate him. I really feel there is only a handful of people at CBZ who really do appreciate what we have in this guy. Then there is a chunk who is okay with him only so long as he doesn't throw INTs. Then there is that vocal minority who really dislike him and can't wait to replace him.

I have to agree with Eskimo. I hardly run into any Cowboys fans who are staunch Romo supporters. Just checking my Facebook feed after any given game, and you'd figure we had Ryan Leaf at QB.

When we run a few screens or run the ball a few times in a row, I have one friend who says "That shows you how little faith the Cowboys have in Romo." This same fan wished we had been involved in the Carson Palmer trade.

Another fan, my brother in law, thinks he's among the worst QBs in the league. That his stats are overrated, that numbers lie, and that anyone who backs him is blindly following him.

Another friend calls for Kitna after every interception.

And these are well-educated football fans (their Romo opinions notwithstanding) who follow the game with a great deal of passion. Of all my Cowboys fans friends who follow the game with great regularity, one is a staunch Romo backer. And I've heard from folks in Dallas how he's generally disliked.

It baffles the mind.

Yep. So many Cowboys fans think Romo is some up-and-down, inconsistent firecracker who intermixes good performances with bad ones.

More realistically, he's a guy who turns in one great game after another, and intermixes one poor performance every five games or so. Just look at his nine games this year. I believe he has surpassed the 100 QB rating mark five or six times. He's much more consistent than he's given credit for, despite being prone to the mental hiccup in the games in which he doesn't perform well.

Some of it does boggle the mind. I guess they think we should just pick another QB off of the QB tree LOL. I have always appreciated him. Sure I get a little upset when he throws an interception but last time I checked there has never been a QB (who has played any meaningful time) who hasn't thrown an interception. I get a little upset when ANY player makes a mistake that cost the team. We are extremely lucky to have Romo. To think how we got him is crazy. The haters have a short memory when it comes to the pre-Romo / post-Aikman era.

As a Romo homer I can't help but agree. Romo gets so much hate from everyone around him -- but every time I watch him I thank our lucky stars because we stumbled ***-backwards into a great QB. Thank god for QC and his coke habit, and Vinny Testaverde being old, and Bledsoe being a statue because without those crazy influences, we would probably be stuck with god knows who.

Also thank Sean Payton. His college connection is part of the reason that Romo ended up here. Then when he got to NO (this was before Romo was named the starter) there was that rumour that he wanted to give us a 2nd rounder for Romo but we said no.

Don't lump me in there. I just wish Tony wouldn't be so Tony at times.

Like today when he rolled out and found Robinson in the endzone when most QB's would have been sacked? That's the "so Tony" you don't want? Cause he throws picks in that situation sometimes too.

I'd be curious to know whether Romo has more success against 4 or less pass rushers vs a 5 man pass rush.

Just by watching the games, it sames that Romo is becoming one of those QB's you just can't beat by sitting back and giving him time. If so, you have to implement routes/plays designed to attack over-aggression.

I don't think I've seen one RB screen this year that was actually called during an opposing blitz.

I think Romo has a really high rating against the blitz so teams often prefer not to blitz them.

I think the book on us has been to try and avoid giving us big plays because we will usually make a mistake along a drive or get stoned near the goalline. If you blitz us you give Romo the chance to hit a big play to one of his WRs.

We have seen it a few times the last couple of weeks. You blitz us and Romo takes a shot down the field to Robinson, Witten, Dez or Miles. The FO has made a priority of making sure the RBs we put back there can pickup the blitz. When there is a free guy Romo can often evade them and then the defense is really screwed because now they have to cover for a long time in single coverage.

The teams that beat us are able to get pressure on us with a 4-man rush. That is what happened against the Giants in 2007 playoffs. That is how we got beat by Minnesota in 2009. That is why the Eagles whipped us two weeks ago defensively (even though most of the damage was really their offense versus our defense).
