I think it is becoming obvious that Roethlisberger is looking more and more pedestrian, and that his team was just as much a result of good defense and running as his arm.

I don't think a QB has has a better situation than he in a long time for a rookie. He came in and was not asked to do too much. Throw about 25 times per game, hand off, PA, that stuff. He was surrounded by great defense and an effective running game.

Romo doesn't have quite as good a defense to work with, but I argue the running game and skill positions are better. This isn't a rookie QB coming on to a team because it has been awful for 5 straight years and drafted him off a top 10 pick. He has been practicing for four years and is on a team with 4 years of quality player aquisition.

I don't think a young QB could ask for more to succeed.

One key item...Roethlisberger's OL was better last season.

Romo threw 36 passes last week. I don't think you can equate the two. Roethlisberger was only asked to not lose the game. Now that Roethlisberger no longer has the great running game, he is asked to go out and win games and is failing. Romo was expected to go out and win the game in Carolina and successfully did it.

Agreed. But... lets see how this line plays with Romo back there....

I know Rivera was excited about Romo being behind center
We know that Colombo held his own against Peppers...

Lets see if this is the beginning of new trend.

If I said it once I've said it 1,000 times. Ol' Benny sucks, he won a Superbowl in spite of himself and because of his team. Just like Trent Dilfer, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, and Brad Johnson did. Brad Johnson is the best of the bunch, but in no way shape or form a great QB.

I'm not comparing the talent levels between Romo or Roethlisberger. I'm only stating that they have both been given equally strong teams with which to be successful. They are surrounded by talent.

Once we win a SB with Romo, it'll be interesting to see how we react to people saying this very thing to us about Romo. :D

Big Ben has had about as terrible an offseason as you could have. In successive seasons he's lost Burress and Randle El and has been injured multiple times. The biggest problem the Steelers have had is losing the physical presence Jerome Bettis brought to the running game. Parker is good, but he's an outside runner and was added to be a change of pace, not the every-down runner.

I think he will snap out of it at some point this year, but it's too late for the Steelers. Look for them to bounce back in 07 with a new physical running attack and maybe another receiver.

I dont know about that.... stats-wise... Romo put up 200+ in one half against Giants.... Ben usually wins games with under 100 yards LMAO didnt he have the lowest QB rating/stats in a SB victory.... Romo has more offense in him

Once we've won the next 3 out of the next 4 superbowls (again) I will just ignore their babble! :moon:

Notice I was realistic and didn't say 4 out of the next 4. ;) :D

I honestly believe that Cowher thought they could just plug any RB behind that OL and have the same results. You just will not be that productive with Najeh Davenport and Willie Parker as your featured backs.

He has a different coaching staff, too. Ben has opened it up when they've let him, and played pretty well. They just don't let him that often.

You keeps it real like that.

The situations are similar, Crown's right, in taht there is a good team ready to go. Eli had a similar situation, and so does Phillip Rivers. That's a good way to bring a young guy along, and I think Parcells has earned some well-deserved praise if Romo continues his development.

CR, I agree, Roethlisberger had the great good fortune of playing with a complete team.

Romo too inherits a team that is better than most.

I think Romo's position is a bit more demanding than Roethlisberger's - Romo doesn't have the OL or go-to power running game that Roethlisberger had.

Romo is better set up to be "heroic." He has to pass more than Roethlisberger, but Romo has truly outstanding receivers. His OL doesn't offer outstanding protection, but enough so that Romo can show his mobility and be effective.
