Romo is on pace to throw 38 TD's and over 4,600 yards! Oh yeah, he already has eight 300 yard games in just 18 starts. The Cowboys record is 13 held by Aikman and he might break that record this year...incredible!

Romo's stats...

Att - 264
Comp - 170
Yds - 2308
Comp - 64.4 %
Yds/Att - 8.7
TD - 19
INT - 10
Long - 59
Sck - 11
Sack/Lost - 83
Rating - 100.4

Cowboys stats...

http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/statistics?team=DAL

The offense is ranked 2nd in the NFL - 406.0 YPG and 33.1 PPG

The offense is actually on pace to score 528 points this year!!!
The OL has only given up 11 sacks and 0 against the Iggles on Sunday.
Witten is on pace for 90 catches and 10 TD's.
Owens for 88 catches, 12 TD's and is averaging 16.6 YPC.
Barber is averaging 5.4 YPC and on pace for over 1,000 yards and 12 TD's.

The defense is ranked 8th in the NFL - 298.4 YPG and 21.9 PPG

The defense is on pace for 42 sacks and 24 INT's.
Ware in on pace for 14 sacks and Ellis for 12 sacks.
James has 2 sacks and is on pace for 100 tackles with 52 right now.
Henry has 5 INT's and 1 TD.

This team is turning out to be one of the best ever in Cowboys history. We are watching greatness this year and I don't think some of us even realize it. No Cowboy team has ever won more than 13 games in a season, but I think this team at 7-1 can really do it. All I can say is, just soak it in and enjoy the ride folks!

According to Football Outsiders' DVOA rankings (which are based on a statistical analysis of every single play), we have a higher overall ranking through nine weeks than any team in the NFL from 2002 through 2006, as well as any team in 1997, 1998 or 2000. They have the rankings only back to 1996, so we can't compare this team to the 1992-95 Cowboys, but only four teams from 1996 to 2006 had a better overall ranking through nine weeks. And remember, those rankings are adjusted for the strength of the opponent, so having an "easy schedule" has nothing to do with it. (And never mind that both DVOA and Sagarin rank our schedule so far just about in the middle of the league -- 14th and 17th, respectively.)

Amazingly, the DVOA rankings have this year's Patriots and Colts both ahead of every team from 1996 to 2006 through nine weeks.

Incredible, but doesn't surprise me with the gawdy numbers of all three teams Adam. The one thing missing from our team's overall greatness is a shutout. It's the hardest thing a defense can accomplish IMO. The 71', 77', 92' and 95' Cowboy teams all had one shutout in the regular season.

Can you say J-E-T-S?

:)

BTW, the 70' SB team had 2 shutouts and the 78' SB team had 1 shutout respectively.

A Cowboy SB trend perhaps?

Ellis has 5.5 sacks on only 5 games played and 8 to go. That puts him on pace for over 14 sacks. Nice

I also read we are on pace to break the team record for TDs which is currently 60 in '80. Our pace is 64.

I know the number are what they are but take away 1 bad game vs Buffalo and Romo's is playing lights out which I think he is anyways. Everyone has a bad game and that was about as bad as it gets. Other than that Romo in my view he has been playing like an elite NFL QB

Has a non-starter ever rushed for 1,000 yards?

Maybe Mercury Morris?

Edit: no, he was a starter

Didn't the Steelers have Harris and Blier both go for 1000 one year?

Why yes, Abersonc, you are correct. In 1976 they did.

And in the three games he didn't start, he had more carries than the guy who started (Taylor). Against Atlanta, in fact, Peterson had 16 more carries than Taylor despite not starting.

Barber has more carries than JJ, too, so it's really just a technicality.

But it would be a truly unique distinction if he pulled it off. If it does happen, (if he got 1,000 yards without ever starting a game) it may never happen again.

Barber has eight more carries -- simply because he gets the run-out-the-clock carries at the end of games. They're basically splitting carries right down the middle, and they've each had more carries than the other in four games.

Peterson has 100 more carries than Taylor and has had more carries in all but one game (and even then, Peterson got 20 carries).

Every QB has that one bad game his fans would like to yank out of his numbers.
That is every QB except Brady of the 130+ QB rating.

One thing this year is proving out.
YOU HALF TO HAVE IT IN THE PASSING GAME.
More specifically you must have a franchise QB.

You still need to run and you still need to stop the run.

But with all the rules changes since 1978, especially the more recent changes, it has become a passing game.

In todays game you win passing. You pass first to set up the run. You simply can not win with an average QB. You can't win with a mediocre passing game regardless of who your RB is.

On defense you win with your pass rush and coverage schemes. Recent rule changes have reduced the effectiveness of the great shut down CB. It's more critical to have no weak links in the secondary and everyone on the same page to run these complex combo coverage schemes.

And I believe that both Csonka and Morris broke 1,000 in the same year with teammate Jim Kiick close behind at 900 or so.
