Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive tackle Maliek Collins’ first big purchase came as a 15-year-old. He saved to buy a Chevrolet Caprice for $1,200, even though he needed an adult to register the car until he was old enough to obtain a license.

But Collins, with some help from his uncle, fixed it up and flipped it for a $1,000 profit.

Owner Jerry Jones would appreciate that sort of business savvy from a teenager. He’s also got to be pleased with what Collins has done on the field.

Collins, a third-round pick out of Nebraska, has developed into a solid three-technique with five sacks and 15 quarterback pressures. His emergence allowed the Cowboys to move Tyrone Crawford to left end earlier this season and really solidified the defensive line.

Maliek Collins has most assuredly proven himself in terms of his overall performance, both as a run clogger and pass rusher. The fact that he's improving steadily with additional experience serves notice that he'll be a valuable force on the DL for many years to come. He has undoubtedly distinguished himself as one of our most prolific draftees this season. Another draft remotely like the last one would really top things off for us. Here's hoping we'll acquire a dynamic DE to augment our DL in the next draft.

What I am especially liking right now, is at a reduced force, this 'rook' is standing up and being a leader up front on the defensive line. Hey, the kid is a mobile trash can full of dirt...

He started at the draft as a favored pick by me.Then Zeek and Dak jumped into legendary status and with MCollins struggling with the foot injury I sort of forgot about him.
Then he healed got into live actions and as the article says slowly each game improved.
Particularly like his high school motivation to buying old cars and turn a profit. Thats character to boot.

He definitely came along at a point when his presence was sorely needed. If we acquire a DE or two to match his talent level in the next draft and/or FA, our DL will be sitting pretty for a long time to come. I'm really encouraged about our improvement on defense this year.

Bullflop, just think what a secondary consisting of cornerbacks of: Claiborne, Scandrick, Carr, Brown, and a top rated drafted corner would do?

After Zeke and J Smith... Every other draft pick represented top value on where they were taken. There were no "2 round reaches" there.

I'm not picking on the Zeke pick... He was taken pretty much where he was projected and the J. Smith pick could have been anywhere.

I think it's interesting how guys like Bosa are the consensus #1 pick in preseason then slide over the year for some reason.

Another thing I really like is that the dirt has a lot of salt content.
