If just the rookie draft class split the bill it is "only 6 grand per...that's not too bad a bill for the rookies to foot.

This practice is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of and anyone who supports this idiocy is a complete meathead.

Some people over analyze everything. It's just a bunch of guys having some quality time over a meal. The team is bonding and that in itself is priceless.
